First off very nice modeling and printing work.
Secondly using a common chassis is a good idea in the beginning. Slot car manufacturers have tweaked body dimensions to fit chassis since the very beginning. So that's nothing new. It just depends on what you want. Some people want scale fidelity others want similar performance in a common chassis. It's not right or wrong it's just a preference.
