Today was the day. Steve and myself met up to start our new track . We made really good process and had even fun with it. We measured, re measured and measured again, then we calculated and re calculated. We found it very difficult to communicate with regards to measurements. Steve was talking imperial and I was talking metric. The age difference was apparent...teehee...
After a few coffees and preparing we finally got off to a start and what a start it was. We developed such an efficient production line that we did lots of track connectors and even fitted them to the boards. We had a few laughters in between and Steve had even PVA glue on his nose much to my amusement. I discovered that Steve has his uses when it comes to coffee making too and Steve found out that a woman has actually got a brain . Together we made a great team and we were feeding nicely from each other's ideas.
I had a great day, thanks Steve for your hard work and thanks for all the coffees. If we continue like that we will have a track in no time. Here some pics ...

I wonder what on earth Tom and I discussed in the last photo. Judging by my facial expression it was probably one of those moments when he was either winding me up or insulting me.

Thanks Rick for some nice additions to our build thread.

December 10th & 11th? Must be a track build weekend!

Plan is to colour-code the slots, roller on the polyurethane race surface and then braid!

The clock is ticking.......

And here's what happened...Sandra jumped out of bed and made her way to the trackbuild and started at 7:30 with getting the boards up and painting the slots. Mike announced his arrival at 10:00 and the rest couldn't make it. Still Sandra wasn't on her own. Since the clock is ticking even the treasurer of the club, who doesn't even race any cars, volunteered to swing the brush! Mike plagued by a cold dragged the brush successfully along the slot and here is the result...
More tomorrow..

Well just Sandra and myself arrived today, everything went to plan except laying the braid, so we are behind schedule and pretty disappointed although we are happy with what we have done.
The painting is all done indeeed and we have now a superb looking track with a nice surface. We made a lot of effort to get the paint and the surface right, but it was hard laborious work. I commented to Mike that this weekend was the most tideous weekend in my life and that has nothing to do with his company..lol....
Next up is braiding and connecting!
Good job Sandra and Mike. The track is coming together really nice.
I hope that putting down the braid is not going to be worse than that!
Not wishing to sound too much like Llandeilo's top Rhod Gilbert impersonator (Leon/PSCC Wales), but do those lanes go "Dark grey (blue), Light Grey (yellow), Darker Grey (red) and Light Grey (yellow again)?

And why did Tom throw a Union Flag at Sandra in post 41 (and miss)?

Looking great gang. I'm getting very keen to drive it, now you are nearing completion.
The painting of each lane is a thankless task so well done. Braiding is cool coz you know that u are nearing the end of a great job.
Update:

Well we completed the painting and the colour coding for the slots and we also put down 2 coats of polyurethane on top but this took much loker than we hoped, so no braiding was done.

Then we found out that the following weekend which we thought we had booked was actually double-booked so, as we are in a Scouts Hut, we had to give way to a visiting group of Scouts from Cardiff
The result being we lost 2 days of track build time.

There followed the sick feeling of reality hitting home that we wouldn't be finished by Christmas and the fact that we would fail to reach our target of being ready to host the second round of the CTM Touring Cars on 15th. January. So the die was cast, we cancelled our round, (hopefully, it will be rescheduled rather than cancelled), and now we have this weekend booked to lay the braid.

Onwards and upwards!

You could have resurrected 'Bob-a-Job-Week'.

Looking great though. I've bought a wood track guide in readiness.
you mean you missed out on the opportunity of some track building with the help of some young volunteers with woggles attached who could have become future members

Well yes, yes we did. However, we already have plans to lay on some events for our woggle wearing hosts and a couple of the senior district woggle wearers are very enthusiastic about us being here so we have opportunities to expand in the future

Well, we are not quite ready, but we are proud to announce that all we need is some electricity to the track and a start gantry. Preparations for that have been made already at home by Steve and Tom, so we need to attach it to the track now. Tom made us a power pack already which we used for the Scaley and it was made for the new track . But enough of electrics....the weekend left Mike and myself with a big smile in our faces
. Mike and Sandra spent all day braiding and we made it ! The track is fully braided, it looks fantastic and really professional. Our fingers are gone from all the pressing and we were very glad that Sandra found an old Seam roller for wallpaper, which was a great help. Never underestimate your garage and its contents...Rick and our treasurer were roped in to paint the outsides, cut some protruding bolts off . Steve did some nice carpentry work again to sink in the braids at the joints...So all done, just connecting and sticking some foam on the sides for those little fly off's, so the cars won't get hurt! Pics below from the finished braiding and process pics to follow!

Thanks Chris, I think we are all pretty tired but pleased with ourselves after another two days of hard work. As Sandra has said, the track looks fantastic now it has braid, we just need to add the spark to get us up and running!

Thanks to Rick, Steve and Cath for all their help over the weekend.
Looking forward to trying out your hard work!
