Hey Fishy,

So glad you're still at it. I just got my pit lane up and rolling about a month ago, and with damage and fuel burning in RCS64, it has really improved the racing experience.

Definitely still enjoying the racing, really looking forward to some tactical long distance races. Not sure if endurance or GP will work best?!

Anyway, time to start ripping up the last corner to fit the pit lane...

So the borders have been removed, the new pit lane is in and endurance racing has started!

We've been running 10 or 12 minute endurance races with 3 to 5 drivers. Endurance racing is so much more fun, and those drivers who typically aren't the fastest over one lap are now winning races as they are able to get the balance between speed and fuel burn just right.

I still need to find a nice way of cutting the R2 curves down to a single lane neatly and I would love to find a way to get the pit lane entry flipper to automatically close after it's been opened. Any suggestions?

Anyway... here's how the track is now looking... it needs the grass sorting out but racing was more important!

get your self a very sharp razor blade knife and take the corner, flip it over and you will see a mold rib that spits the track in half. score along this rib to cut the track. if you what the outer section cut on the out side of the rib and vice versa. just take your time. don't need to cut all the way through on your 1st pass. you can do this on all the sport track.

Of course, I didn't think of the rib down the middle of the underside! Cheers docdoom, that's what I'll be doing on Monday lunch!

As I am mean and want to use both sides. I use a hot melt glue gun and before cutting down the centre, I put a good fillet of hot melt glue down both sides of the rib. I found even with multiple cuts the rib flipped asside if I did not do this. Also it stiffens the track like the rib. I did it a year or so ago and even as a rug racer there is no sighn of the hot melt glue fallinig off.

The pit lane combined with endurance racing has proved to be a huge hit with the racers at work. The only issue we've come across is that our magless cars can miss the pit entry sensor and you often get dragged into the pits when you don't want to be there, ruining you race strategy. Half a straight really isn't long enough to straighten a magless car.

So, I've been thinking about implementing MrFlippant's recommendation on my 8x4 thread and using a left hand Out to In CLC as the pit entrance on the final corner like this...

I put the two extra single radius 3 curves at the beginning for somewhere to park a safety car when I can find one cheap enough!

I've just realised that with a shorter pit entry using the CLC I would just about have room to fit a double width pit lane so you could have people doing drive through penalties whilst someone is stopping for fuel!

Hi
Yes nice idea but proceed with caution,a friend run something very similar and if you get more than one car stopping for fuel then you just hear a load of clattering as each one tries to get into the refuel lane, any overhangs are usually rammed by drivers attempting to clear penalties.

But try it by all means 👍

I like the new pitlane entry. As you can see, you are hitting all the issues that we have been telling you ;-)
As for the double pit lane, the penalty box is a nice idea. But be aware that if you have more than three cars refueling then they are going to block either the entry or the exit of the penalty box.
I have a single pitlane and I know it is not realistic but it adds to the overall strategy especially given that everyone can see the car parameters of the other racers and can easily predict their pit strategy. So with a singe lane you have to anticipate or delay your pit stop according to the traffic that is going hit the pit box.

I know, I know!! I really didn't expect the track to be so popular and people get into proper racing.

I had expected to say you had to stop in the double lane box for refuelling leaving the main lane open for drive through penalties and allow people who pit accidently to drive straight back out. Maybe if I switch to the CLC entry we won't feel the need for the double lane section?!

I like it! My only concern is with the pit sensor being immediately after the curved entry. I've got some guys that just can NOT slow down for the pits during a race. I wouldn't care, except then they end up getting stuck behind other people and not able to do anything, or worse, push people out of the pit because they don't feel they should be stuck in there unable to do anything. So, we do what we can to ensure reliable pit entry and pit sensors, which means having them a half or full straight after the entry.

But, if you establish early on that entering the pit too fast and missing the sensor is a penalty and their own darn fault, so stop complaining, then maybe it won't matter.

At the moment we don't have a Pit Pro sensor so you can speed through the pit lane anyway. If we even raise enough funds to pay for pit pro we could easily move the sensor down the pit lane. It's worth remembering for the future so thanks for the tip.

I've just bought the CLC, four single radius 3 turns and three short straights online, hopefully by Christmas I should have the pit entrance changed

my advice is to get the Smart Sensors instead of the PitPro: the sensors are easier to install under any track piece, they can be placed below the slot so not to interfere with the car guide and they are more sensitive meaning that for them it is harder to miss a car.

So can I just buy smart sensors and use them with SSDC without need the pit lane game converted to pit pro at all?

If you are using SSDC then there are several options open to you namely, using a C7030 powerbase (very cheap now), or the new Locator Pro .......
