I've been told it is rare and I was just after some more information on it and Wether its worth holding onto or selling?

Thankyou for you're advice :)

Hi,

I assume this is Made in Hong Kong, and like most sets from there would not be worth a lot. However, it does have the Holden cars, so this may be worth something in Australia; hopefully, one of our Australian members will pitch in here and give us the local scoop.

Mmmm, a lot of those cheep battery operated tracks where sold here but I don't remember ever seeing one with Australian Holden Torana car's , very interesting! Even endorsed by Holden.

Indeed made in Hong Kong, but I have only ever been able to find one other complete set online that was sold in 2018 to a collector. No one seems to no much about this.

Thankyou for your reply :)

That is very interesting!
Thankyou, I thought so too! I don't know anything about slotcars but I also can't find anything on google about this particular one so I'm definitely a bit curious.

There's a lot less information available on the sets and cars made in Hong Kong (and even less on those from China...), so not too surprising you couldn't find much.

I do remember that when I was trading a lot with Australian enthusiasts many years ago, they were very keen on the Holden cars, so I assume there's some interest in them. You could always put it on Australian ebay with a reserve and see where it goes. In this case, the complete set should be worth something, altho most sets are just worth what the cars are worth.

Just checked and I actually have one of these cars, acquired in a long-ago trade!

Mmm thankyou, eBay might be my best option since I don't really know anyone in this area of expertise.

Would you know a rough value on what a single Holden torana from this set is worth ? I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Thankyou
I'm afraid I wouldn't, because they just don't come up here (I live in Paris, but mostly watch ebay USA). It would probably be worth something like $10 here or in the USA (nobody outside of Australia knows what a Holden is...), but it could be worth a lot more in Australia, and in this case the complete set could also be worth much more.

That's why I suggested listing with a reserve.

Not worth much as cars are close to 1/43, but a Holden collector might pay something for it.
IMO if you get $50 for it you will do well.
Last one I saw was at a local market stall.

Whilst the set itself may be somewhat undistinguished, in my experience, pretty much anything associated with Aussie muscle cars (and the Torana SLR 5000 definitely counts) commands a premium with enthusiasts for such things, so it might well be worth something to the right buyer.
These battery powered set were packaged for lots of different retail outlets and sold under lots of different names, two of the more common in the US being Speed King and Lincoln International. This looks to be the earlier version of the track which was just held together by the rail connectors, they later added connector clips to the track an finally used new moulds which made the track wider. The later versions of the track as most commonly know as Artin. It's quite possible that this was a one off set for Toltoys if it didn't sell that well.

Doing searches for Speed King, Lincoln International, Hi-Rev which was the set name of the Lincoln, and Artin should give a starting guide price, although Artin prices will probably be a lot cheaper than some of the 'branded' set.

As has already been said the cars in the set will normally determine the value and the Holden cars could well appeal. Picking the right sections to list it in will also be important as the cars may appeal to model collectors as well as slot car and set collectors.

Some interesting thoughts and perspectives here. I think Don's comments are right on the money. Would take a Holden enthusiast to take a liking to the car. You could seek out some advice from the Aussie slot car social media groups, a couple of honest guys come to mind, Simon and Logan on these groups, they list a lot of stuff there.
There's plenty of them here! Just have a look at what Holden enthusiastic people are paying for 1/32 Scalextric Torana race cars, I think it will go for more money than you think.
If you do put it on eBay put a decent amount on it as a reserve, I think it will bring more than $50 as someone has speculated , just as a display peace in a Holden nuts man cave they will pay more than that, It will sell!

Wow saw your post on the social media platform, never underestimate what Torana fans are willing to pay I guess! Seems it might be double what I thought it might be worth. Good luck with it.
