Mike made the suggestion that we could do some truck and trailer racing.

Who else would be interested in doing that apart from Andy and myself?

I've been looking on ebay and there are some truck options out there. There are also different manufacturers from Aurora to Tyco.

Another option I've seen are the Autoworld trucks which I've seen available from HO Slot Car Racing for $34.99 - $39.99.

I think if we used these though we would have to introduce some rules as the Autoworld trucks are based on X-Tractions which would not be competitive if the Tyco is based upon the 440 x2.

I can see this being a lot of fun if we can get enough people interested although track layout would be critical.

I like the AW trucks 'n' trailers - and the dump trucks too. Haven't got one yet. The trailers are just asking for custom paint-jobs.

They go for £16.50 shipped from Bad Ls.

I'm not sure if John has one, he was keen to race them a while back.

I would think a simple track with reasonably wide-radius turns would be necessary

Some silicone tyres on the drive wheels would be sensible too, I suspect.

There are several Autoworld trucks which makes it an attractive choice and yes, if a few people do custom paint jobs we can have a nicely varied grid of trucks.

I like the dump trucks too but I don't think it would be fair for someone to race one of those against a rig.

$19 per truck is much more reasonable than the $40 that the other site charges.

I am going to get one at the end of the month. Already bought 5 cars this month so at the end of my allowance!!

I think this is my favourite one!

You should definitely get one Mike. Rig racing is going to be great.

The collection thing can be a problem though. I keep buying things in multiples of four so that I have a car per lane. That gets expensive and storage could start getting tight.

As you can see....

Don't worry Mike! I am only buying one rig!

I think you've come up with a really cool idea and if you are going to buy a rig, then I shall too and hopefully a few more will too and we can have a few evenings racing them every year. So what I'm trying to say is, buy an Autoworld rig! Mine will be ordered in a couple of weeks and I have a sneaky suspicion that someone else in the club will be ordering one at the same time.

Go John! First man ready to roll with rig racing.

Woodcote and I should have ours round about the first week of July (could be longer unless we can work out a way of dodging the delay of customs) so we can truck race from July or August onwards.

Mike and Mike need to get one ordered now!

That would be hilarious!

Surely Julian or Tony are the pancake experts though? I'm guessing, as I've not seen a photo of the chassis yet, that the Autoworld truck is based on the old AFX one. So they're probably pancakes too.

Maybe I should build up another LifeLike chassis and glue a couple of traction mags into the back of the trailer!

I would love to put an order in but only problem is that do I order 1-2 or 3 as there will be so many arguments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know I was the one to first mention this so yes I am well up for it, may not be at next meet though as ment to be going to kids high school------I am trying to find ways of getting out of it!!!!! If order was put in but I am unable to attend in july is that a problem? Also how much is it for 3 rigs and postage etc?

Roy is probably the best person to talk to about Pancakes, his a quick, my experience says, take it apart, clean it up, fit brushes, springs and motor mags from an X-Traction and away you go, my experience of X-Tractions is take it apart, throw everything away apart from the brushes, springs and motor magnets, fit these in a magnatraction

Of course if it has a magnatraction chassis then a BSRT G3 would go straight underneath of it.

Don't worry Mike, we won't be racing without you.

3 rigs is going to work out at roughly £36.60 plus postage which will be reasonable from L.B. so around say £45 all in. The trouble is that that is well over the £18 customs limit so there will be some pain there.

Woodcote, would it be worth tripling up on our order to Bob? Three way split on the Customs pain would be better than two?

Julian, I shall have a word with Roy then. Interesting that you don't like the X-Traction so much. I've driven Andy's it and is just as good as my Magnatraction.

It really should be better, the magnets for a start are a lot fresher and stronger? So is the com.

The magnatractions that I have been fettling are really going nicely now, and the G+ really are quick, and run best on sponges!

The two I have got are poorly made, one was brand new in a sealed pack, it had a bent front axle and the rivet that holds the gear in place had too much play in it meaning the gears wouldn't mesh, the other one is better, but not as good as a 40 year old Magnatraction, I agree that the magnets are better, hence saying to use them, but I think the Aurora armature is better, it has more torque.

I can completely understand when you say build quality. I've yet to experience those problems personally but it is bound to happen eventually. I got one of my brand new JL TJets out to run yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised how nippy it is. Doesn't stay on the track for toffee but I've just bunged a set of silicones on the rear and it is better. Still got to really drive the track with it. No opening the throttle at one speed for the infield and then blasting the outfield with this car.

Anyway, onto truck racing! Is there anyone else from Worthing who is up for buying a truck? Would be good to see Simon, Robin, Darren and a few others get on board although I think they're the only other three who use the forum.
