Hey Guys

Last night I went to my fav. Slotshop and bought me a Fly GB-Track Racing Truck... I took the MAN from Alain Ferte. I think it's a real thing of beauty! It's very neatly done and it has lots of nice details.

But now... the racing... The salesman warned me and what he said is true... The trucks don't take short corners very well, the keep deslotting.

Have you have any ideas to solve this (apart from putting no short corners in the track). Or have you any tuning tips in general? Please let me know!

I thought maybe I could take the magnet out, and put it in front, just after the front wheels... Maybe I'll test this tonight...

Any others tips are very welcome!!!

So I tried to put the magnet in front... the magnet of the truck fits perfectly under the guide... so it doesn't deslot that easily... but now the rear wheels lack tracktion on the track...

Maybe some lead would do something?

I have two Fly trucks one Merc and one MAN. I found a magnet at the front in addition to the existing rear improves the cornering somewhat, but yiou still have to be careful. I also added a second spring on the guide to keep it lower.

I suppose the truth is that real trucks don't go round tight bends that weel so why should slot trucks? It's a whole new ball game.

Hi all, I have a MAN, and with only little tuning it runs very well and don't come off the slot easily

.
This is what I have made :
motor taped to the chassis; front tyres substituted with smaller Ninco fronts ( they have to touch a little the track ); well sanded inside rears ( they don't have to touch the track) and also the outside rears sanded and rounded a little; I have also changed the spring of the guide with a softer one from Ninco; I have changed the rear axle, gear and bushes ( glued ) with Slot It ones ( a 27 black crown gear, sanded on the angle because the space available is poor ), and without adding weight or more magnets. I have noticed that the quality of the front tyres has to be carefully matched with the track : we run on Ninco and all the above is good for me on this track, but on other tracks you have to try the height and hardness of the fronts: this has great effects when turning, mantaining the guide into the slot.

I race a Fly Merc without any magnet on a Ninco track with a hairpin. It wins! (Okay, everybody else is using SCX trucks so far this 'season')

My advice is drive carefully. Be conscious of the weight, especially the front:rear split and the high CG. Easy into the bends and it is fine.

@ Nuro: Once my truck runs propperly I'll write a review for Slotforum about it I you want me to...

I haven't found much testing time lately (I'm co-organising a trip for Old-Timers next week...) but I think the truck has to much traction with the original magnet on my Ninco track... Trucks need to drift...

With the orginal magnet mounted up-front under the guide... the truck drives like it should on 90% ot the track: It screams and drifts around long corners (very nice to see and to drive)... but it just gives burn-outs aroud hairpins...

We have a race-night tonight... so maybe I'll test some more setups...

I really like the MAN truck particulary the Elf livery; very eye catching. Really want one of these trucks, however so far slightly put off by the slightly alarming deslotting problem, which appears to haunt the MAN truck specifically.

Especially after reading numerous posts mentioning exactly the same problem - I wonder if Aaron may be able to comment?

Definately would like to hear if there is a rather more straight forward resolution, without the need to resort to replacement parts, drastic work etc - which IMHO really shouldn't be necessary.

After a month of truck racing, I can say that the most important trick is lowering the front end; use smaller front tyres and a softer spring on the guide, remove or sand the inner rears and your truck will be much more stable, also without using tune-up parts.
Yes, on fast hairpins it will eventually come off the slot, but this is the ( fun? ) part of the game; sometimes it will rock and tilt, as the real thing, when pushed hard, but without losing the slot, and this is what I like

i have just bought a Fly truck, Mercedes benz, and i run a short Ninco track. The truck does 10 laps and then dies, any help guys?

Hi.
Take a look at the first picture in this thread, and listen to Mr. Sprint.
The guide is hanging far up from the slot.
Lower the front by trueing frontwheels (without the tires) and then the tires.
When you get the guide closer to the track, you can start with lead or replacement of the magnet.

You big Jessies. You don't need to do anything to trucks to have fun - just be aware of the different dynamics of the leviathans and stock up on Yorkies.

When we run them at Oxford - which isn't very often because our bumpy old plexy and dodgy board joins just eat 'em up and spit out the pieces - we run box standard. Sisu's seem to have the best balance.

Can't wait for our rebuild that will let us really rip with these beasts.

But when will we get some Dakar trucks?

I have a Sisu and a Merc and the only mods I did were to remove the magnet and replace the guide spring with a hard spacer. This makes them much more predictable and less likely to deslot. They seem to have plenty of traction on my Sport track, mostly sliding, but sometimes tip. I don't have any R1 turns, though. They are great fun once you get used to the massive inertia, which gives less braking than an older Carrera!?

Coming back to this thread, especially after spending time driving trucks I have to say and agree with Scott and Wankel, trucks with and without magnets and weight for that matter are fantastic!

Even without magnets, once you get the knack of driving, you can force the truck to slide and remain in the slot, no real problems with hairpins either, just takes a bit of practice.

One of the best club classes, truck racing is superb. The MAN trucks is excellent and very quick, my earlier doubts completely dispelled!

Gorgeous models, I hope to add a Buggyra to the ever growing truck collection soon.

I have had a Sisu truck for about 2 years now or, it seems that long, It was a bit dodgey at first but, like all cars, all it needs is a bit of "running in" and the thing now runs like a beauty, as Wankel said, The trucks are great with or without magnets And I also cant wait for the new track at Oxford It'll be trucks all night!
I have just bought the MAN that is pictured at the beginning of this post and i see no problem with this truck and i have ups and downs and radius 1 hairpins and it just opens up its huge mouth and just destroys them!!!

I used to have a SISU, did a lot of modifying to make it perform properly and reliably, today I traded it in for the blue Buggyra... 10 grammes of lead in the front, magnet less powerful and more towards the front of the truck, changed 10 teeth pinion for a 9-teeth and hey presto

goes like stink

and never deslots on our club track....
lights to be added just for fun....

MAN, this truck has working suspension, unbelievable to see it lean in the curves

Im about to make a complete rebuild of mine with some nice big Shore 25 rubber wheels, 3mm axles and ballbearings.
It will be lowered untill the belly almost scratches paint of the track

I just love to do braindead projects like that.
