We are looking for 6 teams to take part in the Scaleauto Top Team Challenge on the Saturday.

The endurance race will take place over 3 hours on the excellent ex Llantrisant track.

Teams need to be made up of a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 members.

Just to make it even better giving you no excuses not to take part is that Scaleauto will prepare and supply the cars.

So if you want the chance to be the Scaleauto Top Team enter here please.

Matt,
I hope that all the teams entering this event will make sure that the cars they bring to practise with are fitted with NON SILICON tyres suggest slotit P5's F22's or similar, also what length will the track be some one suggested the track will be shorter than shown is that correct.
Regards
Zen

A little bump
Ooh, never raced with sponge, never raced on wood, this will be fun!

Are these 1/24 or 1/32?
1/32

as stated above bring a/some rubber tyre fitted cars to practice with on the track in the hour before the race, to help learn the track and lay some grip down.

Length - find out on the day!

Matt
Matt,

I may be blind but I can not see the start time for the race?

Thanks

Colin
Doors open at 11am so race start will be at earliest 12pm. I will await Sean to confirm all the timeings as he needs to ensure the jigsaw all fits together
I am confused now

Post #18 suggests that the hour before the race will be used to prep the car. If we are going to use this hour to "lay" some rubber down, when do we prep the car??? Surely, "laying" the rubber should be optional as lets be honest, how much rubber can be "laid" in in hour equally across all lanes? We are better of getting used to the track and the new car during this hour as people will only be getting 15-20 minutes to get used to the car and the track.

Also, don't the doors open at 10am as per http://www.ukslotcarfestival.co.uk/ ???

You have one hour prior to the race start where you will have access to the scaleauto car, in that hour you can do as you wish. Your team could go and get a tan, wonder round the festival, check out the museum, up to you.

My suggestion is fettle with your car, and others in your team use another car you have brought to practice and lay some rubber down - that is just my suggestion.

I will await for Sean to confirm timings.

Sean
Hi guys.
Lets keep this a'for fun' race, please.
We are all competitive racers, but let us keep the right tone for this interesting team race.
Matt's sugestion as to what you do with your hour, is just that...a suggestion. The important things to make this event fair is a proper out of the hat lane draw, to decide who starts where, and (unless there is a good reason not to) keeping each model for each lane.
The first hurdle to cross will be to find out if the supplied 'sponge' tyres have any grip at all on the refurbished Llantrisant track.
This will be the single most important factor. We may have enough grip to make a race of it, or it may be more akin to Ice racing!
Whatever, it will be the same for all of us.
kind regards,
Bill.
Totally agree. Does anyone really care how much grip there is? If there's very little, so what? It'll be the same test of skill for us all and whether it's a ten or twenty second lap is utterly irrelevant.

I like ice racing. Bring it on!
As a guy that has used sponge on both gloss and sandtex I dont think you will have any problems at all, if anything you may well end up with a bit too much.
Hi David.
I hope your correct!
Have you ever used modern sponge types on a 'Virgin' gloss track? Your Rockingham raceway certainly does not qualify for that desciption!
As a 'fresh' newly refurbished gloss track (I make the assumption it is still 'gloss'?) the old Llanny track will be clean and completly 'goop' free, so I have my doubts as to the grip available...even for 'proper' soft and grippy rubber tyres.
We will find out on the day.
Regards Bill.
Timings for the day:

11.30 - race briefing
11.35 - car handout to teams
12.30 - race start, you'll get a 5 min warning to get to the line.
Race each lane for 30mins.
15.30 - race finish and presentation

Race rules:
Race each lane for 30 mins, 3 hours in total. Total distance determines position.

If the podium allows driver changes without interference of other drivers then all driver changes must take place in race time, with the time between heats being minimal to get cars on the right lane. In this scenario you can have as many driver changes as you wish with a minimum of 4 different drivers.

If podium space is limited then driver changes can only take place at change over time. In this scenario you will have 6 driver changes with a minimum of 4 different drivers.

Each team must have a Marshall at all times on the track.

All repairs, changes must occur in race time and cannot be undertaken by driver nor Marshall.

A high standard of behaviour is expected at all times, that includes no swearing. This is a public event. We are there to race but more importantly promote the hobby and club racing, so no shouting at marshals no matter what level of competence is displayed, and ensure any issues are dealt with via the race director discreetly whose decision is unequivocally final.

10 lap penalty applied to infringements at the discretion of the race director (me).

Matt, your latest post says a minimum of 4 different drivers, but the opening post says 3. Can you clarify please. My team has only 3 drivers.

I accept split personalities!
Hi Bill. I have not been o this for a while a haven't seen your post. the Rockingham race way is as you point out well gooped but despite lots of accusations I didnt use any goop on the slotstocks track and we had plenty of grip on that.
Well done to all the teams, hope you enjoyed it. The scaleauto pantera cars ran well, the sponge tyres rewarded in line driving but gave consistent grip.

Winners - Hereford Demon Slot 1187 laps
2nd - Rockingham 1137 laps
3rd - Nascot Wood 1086 laps
4th - Watford
5th - North Staffs
6th - Windsor

Fastest lap, Ben Clements, Hereford, 8.086 seconds
