Hi,heres a 1/48th scale slot car set made in the Soviet Union i got in today. Its made by Ulyanovsk Instrument Industrial Association.
It cost 30 rubles. Its says "the game is intended for children under 10 years old".The track is similar to Marx or Gilbert track, but not the same. Check out the pegs which serve as a fence on the curve.
Notice the strange & unique lap counter(the 2 seperate lap counters just press onto the underside of either side of the straight track. The controller seem to be unique as well. I dont know what kind of cars these are, maybe they are just fantasy cars. I could not find any eastern European race cars like these. Also notice the advanced chassis & motor design with the metal pin guide.
Well its a unique & strange set which we didnt know about before. Thanks,Bernard

Holy moly Bernard, I think you've reached a summum of some kind with this set. Fascinating cars and chassis - and in fact the body does look like something I tried to customize in HO when I was about 11...

The pickup system is similar to early Jouef models - maybe the French Communist Party was contributing?

Don

PS: just noticed the lap counter - was Salvador Dali involved in the design?

HI

Is the tan colored paper supposed to be the roof?? Which would send us back to Porsche 906 territory.

Absolutely smashing!!! Great stuff!!

Bernard, are you or any of us even allowed to have this
... for "Children under 10" ... if I read this correctly.

Anyway .. another great find!!!

all my very best,

Charles

Is there box art?

Hi Chuck,i think we are allowed to have it because we are under 10 years old at heart !
The tan paper is part of the roof.only partial box art 5% at best,it needs a boxtop unfortuntly . The lap counters are totally unquie. I have never seen anything like them. Some of the stuff i find comes from people visiting my slot car museum website, some from contacts ive had since i started collecting around 1991,& some from ebay. But one has to also know what one is looking for & so there is a constant quest for knowlege & the history of electric roadways & raceways which always must be mantained. No matter what we think we know it is never enough.
If it wasnt that way it woundnt be as fun. There is some more really good stuff coming soon. Maybe a set fom mars.
Thanks,Bernard

HI

One more thought .. it is interesting to me that they seem to have copied a Western type of racing car. Some of the tinplate cars produced there model Soviet/Russian racing cars and some seem to be generic. I always wished I had been able to visit there and see what toys were on the shelves. I do know that some of these toys (tinplate, etc., but not slots) are showing up on ebay. More research!!

all my very best,

Charles

Hi,this may still be a soviet car. They did race cars like this in the eastern block races. Prefo of the German Demacratic Republic made both western & eastern block cars. ITES & Tempo did as well. I lived in the Soviet Union for 1 year back in 1981. I remember seeing Soviet made toys & Italian made diecast toy cars in the shops. I dont remember any slot car sets, but i probably woundnt have noticed them if i had. thanks,Bernard
