Well it looks like the Scalextric white cars are out:

L88 Corvette ref C2525 and the White indy car have all been on Ebay over the weekend.

Question? a few people have said that limited numbers will be coming to the UK.

Who will get them and how much will they cost and when will they be available.

I ask becuase i normally get mine sent from the USA and would rather not pay the post.

Any dealers out there with confirmed info.

PS - how much do they retail for in the States?

Don't know about numbers or RRP for UK but in the states the indy can be got for $18 (£11) and the L88 for $38 (£23).

Have to add p&p which I've never found to be cheap from the US. However the last thing I got from the US I asked to be sent surface mail (significantly cheaper) with the expectation of wating upt 2 months for delivery and it arrived within 10 days! Also might get stung by our lovely postal service for tax - I've yet to be done but is always worth building in to the price. Finally always asks for export price so local taxes are removed e.g buy from Oz and they deduct 10% off the price.

I can't speak with complete authority, but it is very common for 'USA exclusives' to be shipped to UK from USA, strange though this might seem. In bulk, to a dealer, it doesn't cost a huge amount more than if shipped to UK direct - certainly less per car than if you or I do it as a private individual from a USA store.

In the case of several Carrera models, I can confirm as a fact, that several of the special editions came to UK from both Continental Europe AND from USA.

OK guys, heres the low down. Scalextric have distributed a very small quantity of plain white cars directly from Margate. Each Scalex rep was allocated a quantity which he had to offer to Collector centers, service centers and general retail outlets. Unfortunately the quantities involved are so small that the chances of most outlets having any stock on general sale is virtually nil. My allocation of Corvettes arrived today but has already been swallowed up by advanced orders. I'm not sure why Scalextric see fit to release such a pityfull amount of cars into the Uk. My advise it to check out your local Collectors center or retailer without delay. Sean

We haven't received our delivery of this yet, but we do still have a few left from our allocation. Catalogue ref is C2525 and they are £26.99 each (though we give a 5% discount for pre orders, making them £25.64 at present).

My only guess about the limited numbers is that Scalextric weren't expecting them to be very popular. Hopefully they will bring more of this, and other plain white cars over soon, if they do sell well.

I'd also advise people to move quick if they want this. The fact that it is the first Corvette released is also likely to make them more in demand. The first Sports edition isn't due for a couple of weeks.

Thanks Sean and Jon for the info.

I just can't understand Hornby's reason for such a limited UK release!!?

(most of their recent limited editions have been 7000 plus!!!)

Like you say this is the first release of a new model - it's bound to be popular.

Looks like i will have to get it from USA or Australia, Sean let Hornby know that they are forcing regular UK customers to buy their product from abroad. I'm off to Washington ate the end of next month - anyone know a good slot shop in DC?

Part of the reason for Scalextric releasing the plain white cars in the UK is that myself and other dealers have been 'hassling' Scalextric to release them over here, they have been listening but haven't released them in sufficient quantity. However, it is a fine line between releasing not enough and too many. I'm sure if the plain white cars were released in 'standard' quantities they would still be on the shops shelves for years to come. Sean

yeah 3 for me as well!

Oh and while i'm at it one German gt40 and one each of the new Australian Bathurst Cars!

Mind you - if everything was so easy to get it would make collecting a bit boring.

It's a very interesting price quoted for the totally plain 'Vette.
Very little cheaper than the most expensive Scalextric cars equipped with full warpaint.

Does this make anyone ponder all the chat about the alleged 'high' cost of licencing?
Does it confirm my view that production cost has absolutely zero relationship to selling price and that the price is set just as high as the manufacturers gamble we can be persuaded to pay?
I used to suggest this more . . . er . . . forthrightly,
but I'm behaving myself these days (more or less)!

Just to clarify my post, the retail price for the plain white Corvette in the UK is £26.99 which is the same as a normal standard edition car.

If they do sell out quickly, hopefully Scalextric will bring some more over.

Nuro / JEXY1 - if you want a plain white Corvette, we still have a few left which are listed on our website.

I think you'll find this position with most of the main UK retailers - most already committed to via pre-orders and only a few left (if any) available. If you want one of this initial allocation you'll need to act quick. Scalextric might allocate another batch but this cannot be garanteed so if you really want one of these and unless you want to buy abroad we advise you to go shopping quickly.

It will be interesting to see what Scalextric make of this and whether they will release more 'white' versions of future releases directly to the UK - we think they will.

Thanks for all the info guys.

Most of you know about the Corvettes but what about the IRL's are these being released in limited numbers also in the UK?

With respect Tropi the picture angles in the reviews and the size and quality of the images (the compromise for speed of download) do not show the car at its best. And no disrespect intended to Harry.

I was thinking about posting them here rather than providing a link but I thought it would be economic on the server to do it the way I did it and I would be not forcing the pictures on you if you were not interested.

Comments would be welcome.

I have a new photographic set up which should mean much better pictures in the future. My photography time in the last few weeks has been severely limited but I should now be getting back into photo mood.
