I've noticed sellers on ebay breaking up perfectly sound vintage scalextric model cars and punting the parts individually to bidders.

Seems those who prefer this method are cashing in.

I suppose the parts are helping to complete other models.

Would you consider this practice? Would you break up an original model in sound condition for profit?

I wouldn't.

I think all the advice sites about selling on ebay always recommend selling things as separately as possible, so yes, it's to maximize profit.

Seems kind of silly, but that's from the buyer's point of view! And in some cases, I am just looking for specific parts.

There is a guy who regularly splits Slot.it stuff.

I've watched a few "sets of car parts" and he certainly manages to get more than people do for a complete car, even when you take fees into account( he seems to charge odd amounts for postage, so probably uses that difference to cover the fees).

I can see why people buy, as sometines its difficult to buy "spare parts", I searched for a year for a chassis to replace a broken one.

Having said all that, I'd not have the heart to take a C.64 Bentley apart, just to make a few more quid.

You see a lot of this practise on the oo railway sections where old locos are bought up one week to reappear the next in bits along with a series of bids to inflate the prices. If you watch an item its quite interesting to see it keep relisting even though it was supposed to have sold two or three times already. I watched a few loose chassis with rusty wheels last week got out bid on one or two and saw packs of rusty wheels turn up this week.

In slot cars i guess it always has been the sets which got broke up and sold seperatly.
