Dear all,

I hope you don't mind me setting up this account to ask for help, as I knew this would be where the experts would be!

We recently unearthed a cache of vintage toys from the 1950's from our grandma's attic. While most are in mint condition with boxes, our slot car set unfortunately seems to been victim to some creativity. Nonetheless i'd love to know some more about it. Google seems not to have any answers.

Here are some pictures. If someone could tell us a little more about the history we would be very grateful.

Cheers!

Michael

Hi Michael,

Love to help, but a shot of the bottoms of the cars would help. Dimensions too... 1/32 or smaller? That would be about 5-1/2" long.

It seems to be a Made in Hong Kong set:

probably a sub-brand of SpeedKing, one of the better known brands from HK. The cars are Lister Jaguars, and those are mentioned in the above linked thread.

Hope this at least gives you a few leads.

Hello,
The NSCC journal of January 2015 mentions a Thunderac set with similar cars. Sold for 120 GB Pounds. No details of the actual set but mentions the cars as similar to a Scalextric Lister.
Have searched for controllers like those but not found anything exactly the same. I did find mention of the same Thunderac set with pictures on Bilbaneforumnet.

NSCC Page 40 here - http://www.nscc.co.uk/pdf/journal_2015/January2015.pdf Bilbaneforumnet.

Description:

"And before finishing, i show you one of the earliest Hong Kong made sets..a rare 1/32 Thunderac set, mint in box, with two Lister Jaguars..i guess this set was made in the first half of the 60s, and the cars are really similar to the Speedking ones..maybe this set was produced by Speedking itself but with an earlier name..and it's funny to read the serious hint given to the slot cars racers: "GOOD RACING DRIVERS SAY IT IS WISE TO GO SLOW INTO A CORNER AND AS FAST AS POSSIBLE WHEN OUT OF IT"..good Asian wisdom

because, i guess, drivers doing the other way round wouldn't be able to give advices anymore.."

Hello Bernard, I checked your site earlier but could not find this. Looked under the Hong-King collection.
