I've gotten the oppurtunity to get an volvo 850 scx model which I am planning to upgrade into the 1995/96 version.
But while I was thinking the thought popped into my head that I may also make an 850 btcc touring of the 1994 season.
Has anybody got any experience with a conversion like this and what materials would you suggest would work the best to make the extra estate conversion?
Betta do a vac form of the Volvo estate.
Might be a good place to start even if you ultimately want a resin casting.
The plastic that the SCX body is made from is very waxy and flexible and it's difficult to glue things to it permanently.
Cheers.
Mick.
I'm suprised that the Volvo estate was never released by SCX/Scaley back in the day, I think it would have been quite popular.
I remember seeing them race at Donington, very impressive and did Volvo's popularity a world of good.
I think I will try to make the extra piece and glue it onto the original.
I'm not familliar with vacuumforming and that kind of stuff, I do however have some very thick foam that might do the trick.
If i'm going to start with the project I will let you know.
I'm also suprised they didn't make an estate version but I'm more suprised that nobody tried to do it themselfs or make the at least make the original volvo 850btcc scx more to real life with a paintjob.
With some Slot It bbs rims it should look just like the real thing.
I check out or Volvo guy last night,he only did a 1/24 850 and a 245 Wagon in 32. He did look at the SCX version and suggested using styrene sheet to make just the back part and gluing on, paint and then check Patto for decals.
That's about the same approach as I was gonna go, but first I think I'm going to make the 95 saloon version and later try my luck on a 94 estate version, since I'm very new in these sort of things.
Decals are available from Patto's, I've just had a look. Other thing would be to get hold of the 1/24 Tamiya model and scan and print their decals.
