I've purchased a highway volvo p1800 (as my dad use to drvie one while I was in charge of the overdirve button) and I want to source/make the decals for the car. Its a road car so it only needs the volvo insigna on the bonnet and the chromed VOLVO for the rear.

I want to also replace the painted headlights and indicators with lens but have not a clue where to start. Also I want to add the boot handle and petrol cap key - anything better than a blob of paint!?

Here are some pics of the decals I'm after (the logos are low quality so prefer higher definition ones (or does that not matter?))

I can't help you with the decals, but I have to say a P1800 is a really nice car!

Hi Matt,

That lookls like a pretty good set of logos you've got there. Once you've scaled them down to 1/32 they should be fine.

How about a panel pin or large upholstery pin for the boot lock/handle with the head of the nail/pin filed down to an oval.

I cannot help with decals...but I can describe a cheap way to do the lenses with minimal tools...like a candle and clear plastic, if you care.

Marlon - if I can find no decals better I will try these. I'll also try your pin idea.

Fate - yes please, as all advice, methods are very welcome.

Gunther - I intend to do a write up about this model for the forum when I've finished, but don't hold your breath.

looking at the chrome parts, I wondered if it was expensive or even possible to get 1 off etched metal parts made?

I can help with the decals.I can print silver for the chrome,may look okay?? I can used your pictures to help me out.
I have the P1800 Highway 32 kit for sizing purposes.
My first new car was a 1972 1800E,then a few years later I purchased a 1973 1800ES wagon.Both standards,with overdrive transmissions.The 1800E was gold exterior,with saddle interior.The 1800ES was a blue exterior,with blue interior.
Great memories of a fun car to drive!!!

that would be excellent as I've tried printing silver and it just looks washy. The decals required are the VOLVO (seperate letter one) emblazoned on the rear, the rear badge which is the 1800 with the S under it, and the trianglar volvo badge. If you're able a few of each of those would give me scope for trial and error (inevitable with my current level of modelling skills!). Let me know how much and I'll get the cheque in the post straight away.

To the 1:1 version: when I move to the country I intend to get myself a real one but at the mo the slot car version is as close as I'm likely to get. We had a '68 P1800S in green with a tan interior - just got loads of excellent cruising memories. The E and ES versions are much rarer and now command a hefty price tag for original ones.

Just as a mater of interest,the guy in New York with the P1800 has covered more than 2,000,000 in his,and I believe the motor has been rebuilt once.

Pretty good for a car that spends all it's life outside in NYC,as he has no garage.
