Wales and West GT Championship 2020

General information thread relating to all rounds.

Each club will advertise their round on Slotforum as the primary method of competitors gaining an entry.

2020 Series Calendar:

Round1: Feb 16th South Manchester SRC

Round 2: Mar 1st Llantrisant SRC

Round 3: April 19th North Staffs SRC

Round 4: July 5th Oxford SC

Round5: Sept 27th Wolverhampton SSCC

Round 6: Oct 25th Wye Valley SCC

Ethos:

To race Classic GT cars and Open class cars in a friendly environment with an aim to raising the skill level of all racers, whilst encouraging newer racers or "home club only" racers to experience the next level of competition. Helping novices and newer racers is actively encouraged, whilst visiting other clubs with different track surfaces will help all racers develop their racing technique.

The Classic GTs are run in almost "out of the box" condition, whilst Open Class allows a little more room for experiment - although several very popular models are very competitive with only the minimum of fetling required - and the old hands will show any newer racers how to get them into shape.

Rules: (Also available in the attached image and PDF files.)

THE CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. Wales and West is an analogue slotcar racing championship held annually over six rounds.
  2. Each round comprises racing in two Classes: Classic GT in the morning and Open Class in the afternoon.
  3. Classic GT races are 20-25 laps per lane, or as time permits.
  4. Open Class races are 25-30 laps per lane, or as time permits.

SCORING

  1. Points will be scored 50, 49, 48, 47, 46, 45, 44 etc for both Classes at each round.
  2. Any car failing to finish a race will be classified as DNF and drop to the bottom of the results table. Two DNFs will be placed lower than one DNF, and so on.
  3. A driver's four highest scores in each Class count towards their Championship total for that Class.
  4. Drivers who compete in less than 3 rounds will have their scores eliminated from the Championship tables.
  5. The drivers with the highest Championship total in each Class will be the Class Champions.

GENERAL RULES

  1. No traction magnets allowed (even on wood tracks).
  2. Cars must start and finish each race with matching body, windows and interior.
  3. White bodies must be fully painted.
  4. Body, chassis and pod may be lightly trimmed to aid rock.
  5. Motors must not be modified from manufacturer's spec.
    • If a motor's performance is suspect it will be subjected to a bench test to establish its performance. Any evidence of tampering will result in disqualification from the whole Championship.
  6. Motors must be fitted into pod as originally intended.
  7. Motors may be fixed with glue and/or tape.
  8. Ballast weight may be added, but must be inside the car.
  9. Tyres may be trued, glued and coated, but must be dry to the touch at the start of a race.
  10. All non-specified components, (eg braids, eyelets, guides, wires, pinions, gears, axles, stoppers, screws, nuts, springs, weights, lubricants and paints) are free choice. Varies between classes.
  11. All parts must be commercially available.
  12. The scrutineer's decision is final.

Here are the tables sorted by total points - have a look at Open - led by an ancient thumb controller, used in a highly competitive manner!

And also the spreadsheets - Mark Wain's green in the afternoon had to be run, so the heat stats are incorrect, but the overall stats are corrected to reflect the rerun. Very close between Mark, Will and Tony at the end.

ATTENTION: ROUND 3 NORTH STAFFS HAS BEEN POSTPONED TILL LATER IN THE YEAR.

RESCHEDULED DATE TO BE CONFIRMED.

The team at North Staffs and the Organisers of the Wales and West Championship recognise that this cannot go ahead on the proposed date of April 19th.

When a suitable alternative date is agreed, we will let you all know as soon as possible.

Spend the time of these missed events wisely - get your cars built, tyres trued and throw a track up at home.

Looking forward to seeing and racing with you all as soon as it is pracitcal and safe.

Hi All,

Ive been monitoring the current situation as Bill has re the GT3 series, and have come to the same conclusion that its very unlikely to recommence this year.
All paid up members will get a free entry next year. I will have a chat to Craig and Phil maybe we might be able to do a one or two round series much later in the year if things do improve..but dont hold youre breath.
So Jeff you are the 2020 Open GT champion and I am the Classic 2020 Champion!!!!
Ill give you youre wooden spoon when I see you next!
Lets hope things quickly get back to some sort if normality in 2021.
Our club opens Wednesday but we have to follow some tough guidelines, but we are all looking forward to racing again.
Make sure everyone keeps safe and well and will see you all soon ...... I hope.

Steve.
