I've put together the 1965 BRM P261 (chassis 2617) that Jackie Stewart raced exclusively in grands prix from the beginning of 1965, the final year of the 1.5 litre formula, and into the following year at the beginning of the 3-litre Formula.

He won the non-championship International Trophy at Silverstone and the Italian Grand Prix in 1965 and the 1966 Monaco Grand Prix before he wrote the car off at Spa in 1966.

The car is now somewhere between Southend and Montana on its journey to a proxy series in the US

Hi Guys
An inspiration as always. I have tried to put together a 1 ½ litre F1 car and I have yet to come up with anything that has the right look to it. Posts like this help, it certainly drives me on to raise my standard.
Thanks for posting.

Hi
No sooner said than done
Here is my entry for the montana gp proxy race ,like daves ,somewhere between somerset and colorado
It is a 1963 Lotus 24 BRm ,that innes ireland drove in the 1963 international trophy at silverstone ,it was one of the first F1 events I went to and remember being mightyly impressed that good old Innes had put this privateer old fashioned spaceframe car on pole ahead of clark, hill, surtees etc and their works cars
Like most of these stories it didn,t have fairy tale ending .Having made a bad start ,the lime green BRP lotus had an enormous spin about lap 6 at the old woodcote ,went round at least 4 times ,but ireland gathered it all up without hitting anything and resumed down in tenth
By the race end he was up to fourth ,and broke the lap record on the last lap trying to catch trevor taylors lotus for third
I used an old Airfix body and modified the back with the low engine cover developed by BRP,
The chassis is a brass flexiboard with a rattle plate fitted
hope you like it

Tony I have had such little time this year for slot cars that I had to put the Reims Lotus 21 on ice for another time.

Nice build as usual, is this a Classic or Dave Jones shell please?

Thanks

Dio

As most people know I am one of Dave Jones biggest fans, his bodyshells are unsurpassed but I decided to use one of Charlie Fitpatrick's "Classic" shells for this car. With Charlie's long contribution to the hobby I thought it would be nice to have one of his cars on the grid.

Ok I am a bit confused here. These are not coming to the VRAA Proxy race in the States, so what is the Montana Proxy race? Ken

Raising the bar.

If Beardog keeps this up, I'm going to have to hire some serious talent in order to compete. Complete news at 11:00.

Hells bells chris that is really special ,how did you do the helmet ?
As an aside did the BRP really run with Stack pipes , I thought stack pipes went out during 1962
The early BRP lotus brms featured stack pipes but nor after the works BRMs dumped them in mid <62 or is my memory playing tricks on me

Cheers tony

PS whens the first race?

Here he is at the 1964 Belgian GP.

It appears that several BRP's ran with stack pipes, I think they had a couple of BRM engines to choose from, one with a conventional exhaust arrangement, and the other with stack pipes.

Hi tifosi,

The Solarbotics motor that Ken is referring to you may know as the BWA/Beardog mini motor. It's the mabuchi 030 can motor. It just took the F-1 racers in the U.S. another 10 years to find them. They are still week on torque, but Al Penrose is doing some research on some with stronger magnets that should solve the problem. (yes Al's still doing things, just behind the scenes, with limited internet access).

Tony, how did I do the helmet? it's just a Beardog helmet hollowed-out with a LeMans Miniatures face, the secret is to use magnifying goggles so that I can see what I'm doing, and of course a great Yorkshire white rose decal.
