February 24th 2011

Tonights race meeting saw the HPI Nissans brought out again ahead of the general meeting next week where roles and race classes will be decided.

There were nine racers present Andi Burt, Chris Priest, Ray Beattie, David Kneale, Stu Brew, Chris Angold, Ryan Kneale, Mike Dove and Pete Lawther.

This week saw just 3 minute heats ran with no finals as we tried out the new race management software which worked an absolute treat. (Well done Andi, Mike et al in setting it all up)

Unfortunately I can only remember the top 6 (note to self write down the results next time!) but there were the usual spills, thrills and laughs aplenty.

1, Chris Angold - 100 laps
2, Ryan Kneale - 97 laps
3, Andi Burt - 92 laps
4, Ray Beattie - 89 laps
5=, Chris Priset - 84 laps
5=, David Kneale - 84 laps

After racing some serious machiney was brought out including Slot.it Porsches and Audis as well as a mix of sports cars and other LMP's and the lap times got quicker and quicker notably some sub 6 second laps were recorded by various drivers.

Rumour has it that with all the new cars arriving at the club Pendle are thinking of taking shares out in it

Another great nights racing overall and many more to come!

Ryan,

If you bring a memory stick in with you next week, ( and remind me before we switch the PC off ! ) I can give you all the race results, laptimes, etc in Ms Excel spreadsheet form - software sorts it all out and saves it to a file for reference !

Nice to see my name in the top three - that won't happen very often !

Hi folks

Looks like an entertaining evening's racing! We'll have to do something about that chap at the front who clocked up 100 laps though....he's too far in front!

Had to make do with a couple of pints whilst watching the Liverpool game last night, hardly a decent substitute for racing.

See you all next week!

Cheers
Dave

After a technical glitch I have the race results from the 3/3/2010

Following the election of the commitee last week the standard Sports GT class was run with 2 minute heats on each lane. A bit of a mix up with names saw myself entered into the race management software twice and Steve Morrow not at all so to make the results as fair as possible as Steve only completed 2 heats Steve and myself were given the same score.

An interesting mix of old and new sports cars were ran from various manufacturers including Scalextric, SCX, Fly and Proslot were on track. A few breakdowns were experienced during racing but overall it was fast and furious and super tight at the top with Mike Buss taking the win 1 lap ahead of a three way tie for second between Ryan Kneale, Steve Morrow and Andi Burt.

Racers T-Laps
Mike Buss 70
Ryan Kneale 69
Steve Morrow 69
Andi Burt 69
Brian Harrison 64
Ray Beattie 64
Dave Capelen 62
Mike Dove 61
Andy White 61
Dave Kneale 56
Chris Angold 49
Geoff Harrison 44

10/03/2011

Yesterday saw the first multi race night with the two scheduled classes run these were: out of the box no mod HPI Nissan class and the limited Mods Saloon/Touring Cars. As time permitted we followed these classes with a fun free for all where any car could run and car changes were allowed.

First up was the HPI Nissan class. This was run as two minute heats with each driver driving each of the four lanes. Plenty of close racing was seen as well as flying mirrors and broken number plates as the cars raced wheel to wheel at times. Interestingly an increasing number of GTR34's were seen lapping the track as opposed to the preferred GTR32's. The 32's occupied the top four positions though and their smoother ride seems for now to be more suited to the track.

Steve Morrow once again topped the leaderboard 3 laps up on 2nd place Ryan Kneale who was two laps up on 3rd place Chris Angold with Mike Buss a single lap back on Chris. 5th place was shared between 3 drivers something marking the track into 100ths will solve inn the near future.

Full Results below:

The second race of the evening the Saloon/Touring cars saw a variety of cars out on track including rally cars, touring cars, american muscle cars and Nascars. Amongst the thrills and spills of racing we saw a few popped pinions and a few unscheduled pitstops for several drivers.

Steve Morrow took the honours completing 74 laps in his Fly Audi Quattro rally car with Brian Harrison 2nd in his Proslot? Alfa Romeo on 72. Dave Capelan took third in his scalextric Chevy with 69 laps, the Chevy certainly had tongues wagging about what he was running. 4th went to Ryan Kneale in a ninco subaru tied with Chris Angold on 66 laps in his Proslot Alfa after both drivers had minor car issues.

Full Results can be seen below:

Finally a third class was run for fun where any car could be raced a couple of NSR Moslers, a few slot.its and MB slot cars came out with drivers able to change cars between heats. Dave Capelan brought his Mosler out and boy did she go some. Unfortunately I don't have the lap details after excel crashed and only gave me the finishing order but I can confirm the Mosler wrapped up 20 laps in some heats ( I believe this is the first car to do so in a 2 minute heat) and recorded lap times in the region of 5.1xxx seconds easily a lap record in race conditions!

Position Racer
1 Dave Capelen
2 Chris Angold
3 Steve Morrow
4 Mike Buss
5 Ryan Kneale
6 Andy White
7 Brian Harrison
8 Dave Kneale
9 Ray Beattie
10 Geoff Harrison

Well that is it for this week!

Hi Ryan

Thanks very much for posting the results, it all happens so quickly on the night that it's not easy to get a quick look at all the details and keep track of things.

I think it was a really great night's racing and it was brilliant to be able to fit 3 classes in, it made for a good variety.

In the "Anything Goes" class, my Mosler clocked 20 laps in each of its first three heats, then I changed to a scratch-built car which needs new tyres and the handling was rubbish, only managing 15 laps for a total of 75. I think for totals Chris had 72 and Steve 71, from memory and I think the fastest lap may have been only 5.3 something, if Chris's recollection on the night was correct.

Lots to do to prepare a GP car for next week though! None of my RTR's run very well, probably a tyres issue mainly.

Cheers
Dave

5.119 I think was the lap time on Blue lane as me and Dave Kneale were looking at it in awe definitely a 5.1 though! my Moslers fastest with me driving was 5.6 something but I haven't worked on the tyres they have been glued but not trued which I think was causing them to spin and then kick me out of the slot when they gripped.

It was a great night though.

#11 ·
Hi Ryan

OK, I'll take the 5.119 then....
And on blue lane, which should be the slowest! Mind you, that's the lane I've practised on most.

If your guide is coming out of the slot, then a little weight just behind it, on the chassis, will help when the power comes in under acceleration. Truing the tyres will also definitely help: I'll have my Hudy tyre truer with me next week as usual, so you can do them then.

Will have a play with my F1's this weekend.

Cheers
Dave

Yes Dave, after your performance with the Mosler I bet Pendle have sold out now!
I know of at least one more that will appear in future races.
Just a bit
that I can't run my new Porsche cos of it's bent wheel! Never mind I'll just have to use one of those Ferrari things

Steve.

Hi everyone

Firstly a big Happy Birthday to Ryan on achieving the Big 3-0 today - it's a shame you missed last night's racing, as it was a really good night, but I believe you'll be back next week. So I'm afraid it's a report from me this week

We're now working on a calendar drawn up by Hon Sec Steve Morrow last week, so for this week we ran:

Limited mods F1/GP post 1970
Modified Sports/GT/LMP post 1970

As both Chris P and Andi were missing this week, we experienced some technical difficulties with the race managemehnt software, so after a lot of head-scratching and cursing, a decision was taken to phone a friend (Andi), after which we managed to kick-start race proceedings, although later than scheduled at about 8:40pm.

Most drivers struggled with the level of grip with the standard tyres required for the F1 class, although those with the more recent tyres and some who had trued and teated their tyres found the going a bit easier grip-wise.

We started with the F1 class and had the first 20 lap heat recorded by Steve Morrow on Lane 4 (green lane) on his way to a really good total of 73 laps, not far in front of Andy White on 72 and Dave Capelen on 69, who gave away at least 3 laps on blue (inside) lane to the top two, which blew his chances. Very close behind were Ray Beattie on 68 and Brian Harrison on 67, with Mike Dove completing the top 6 on 65 laps.

We welcomed back Pete Lawther for his first serious race week and I'm sure he'll be further up the order when his cars have rather more grip. Closest battle of the night was between Chris Angold and Mike Buss, who after the 4 heats recorded 63.30 laps and 63.29 laps respectively to decide 7th and 8th places...!

Position Racers Lane 1 Lane 2 Lane 3 Lane 4 Total Avg
1 Steve Morrow 19 18 16 20............ 73............ 18.25
2 Andy White 18 18 18 18............ 72............ 18
3 Dave Capelen 15 18 18 18............ 69............ 17.25
4 Ray Beattie 16 17 18 17............ 68............ 17
5 Brian Harrison 17 17 17 16............ 67............ 16.75
6 Mike Dove 16 16 16 17............ 65............ 16.25
7 Chris Angold 15 15 16 17............ 63.3......... 15.825
8 Mike Buss 19 18 14 12............ 63.29....... 15.8225
9 Geoff Harrison 17 16 13 14............ 60............ 15
10 Dave Kneale 14 16 14 12............ 56............ 14
11 Pete Lawther 12 15 14 8.............. 49............ 12.25

Well done folks, it was a really enjoyable battle all the way down the field!

Steve's 73 lap total for 4 heats, plus his best heat of 20 laps are the new benchmarks for this class.

Did anyone record their fastest laps? What cars did you drive? Mine was the Scalextric Alonso Renault of a few years ago.

The Modified Sports/GT results will follow separately.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Guys, hope you had a great birthday Ryan and got some new pressies you can show us next week. Sorry you missed the racing last night, it was good fun. Not too much trouble with grip for me except for my third heat, I really struggled keeping it in a straight line in that one, it was all over the place.
In the Sports GT race my MB Slot Ferrari 430 was fast but very difficult to drive; the motor seems to have nothing low down in the rev range and then comes alive all of a sudden. Mike D said his was just the same. We think its the motor type. Don't think anyone got near Dave in the Mosler though, he was driving very well, although he felt he could have done better! Roll on next week eh?
Steve.

ps. Thanks to Andi for his remote help over the phone, but mainly Mike D for sorting the lap timing out for us.

Morning all

Report on Modified Sports GT Class from last Thursday 17th March.

This was the first time this class had been run in earnest, although most people had given some of their cars a bit of a run-out in last week's Open fun class, with my NSR Mosler holding the unofficial outright benchmarks of 5.119 (fastest lap) and 20 laps in a heat, from last week.

Steve had also hit 20 laps in this week's earlier F1 class, so this pointed to perhaps even better performances from the cars in this Modified class, which also allows in the more potent makes of RTR cars: Avant, Racer, Racer Sideways, Slot-it, MB-Slot, Scaleauto, NSR, Sloting-plus, Ninco Pro and MSC on top of all other makes like Scalextric and Ninco, SCX etc permitted in the limited mods classes. Modifications permitted are free choice of wheels and axles.

This class had a number of NSR and Slot-it cars, a couple of MB-Slot and I thought I saw an Avant at one point in practice, plus a couple of Racer Sideways and various Scalextric cars and other brands.

As expected, the magic 20 lap barrier was well and truly broken by several drivers, Andy White managing this in lane 4, Brian Harrison in lanes 3 and 4, Dave Capelen in lanes 2, 3 and 4 and Steve Morrow in all 4 lanes!

At the bottom of the table, Geoff Harrison just pipped Pete Lawther for 10th (63.27 v 63.10), Dave Kneale was a steady 9th just behind Mike Buss, who had problems in Lane 4 and only clocked 11 laps, otherwise he would have been pushing for 4th place. Ray Beattie finished on a respectable 68 and Mike Dove managed to take 5th in his MB Slot Ferrari by half a lap from Chris Angold (72.81 v 72.31). Andy White had a really good series and clocked 75 laps for 4th, but couldn't hang onto Brian Harrison's quick car in 3rd, whose 2x19 and 2x20 gave him 78.

However, it was Steve Morrow's super-consistency that saw him clock 20/21/20/20 for 81 laps, despite describing driving his MB Slot Ferrari as like having an on/off switch....
It certainly wasn't obvious to me as a spectator and was a testament to his driving skills. Unfortunately for Steve, that was only good enough for 2nd, as Dave Capelen overcame a crash-strewn first heat of 19 laps to clock 22/21/22 for the last 3 heats to total 84 laps, also lowering the outright lap record from last week's Open Class with his NSR Mosler from 5.119 to 5.009, then 4.989, then to 4.954 in the last heat, on the outside lane.

Results as follows:

Position.....Racers....Lane1.Lane2.Lane 3.Lane 4.Total....Avg......F/laps
1....Dave Capelen.......19.......22.......21.......22......84.......21............4.954
2....Steve Morrow.......20.......21.......20.......20......81.......20.25
3....Brian Harrison......19.......19........20.......20......78.......19.5
4....Andy White..........19.......18........18.......20......75.......18.75
5....Mike Dove............18.......18........18.......18......72.81..18.2025
6....Chris Angold........17.......19........17.......19......72.31..18.0775....5.338
7....Ray Beattie..........16.......18........17.......17......68.......17
8....Mike Buss.............18.......19........19......11.......67......16.75.......5.377
9....Dave Kneale.........16.......15........17......17.......65......16.25
10..Geoff Harrison......15.......17........15......16.......63.27..15.8175
11..Pete Lawther.......14........17.......16......16.......63.10...15.775

Record lap: 4.954 sec
Record laps in a heat: 22
Record total laps: 84

Unfortunately, the printouts don't show everyone's fastest laps, so the three I've quoted above are just those I happened to spot on the screen, just after the heats finished.

For future weeks I will try and remember to take some photos, plus it would be useful if we had the data for what cars everyone runs in each class.

As Steve mentioned in an earlier post, I think 23 laps in a heat is a possibility with the Mosler, with no crashes, as I finished on 22.95 in the last heat....
....but 24 laps would require each one to be at 5 secs flat, which I think is unachievable with my current car set-up and old tyres.

Another really good night's racing , with some very close dices, well done everyone.

I'm now away on holiday for a couple of weeks, but I hope there's some more great racing in my absence.

See you all on 7th April.

Cheers
Dave

Sorry for the delay in posting the results but I have had family from the UK over this weekend.

24/03/2011 - SportsGT - Limited Mods

Thursday saw the return of the SportsGT - Limited mods class. After new benchmarks were set last week by the F1's and Modified Sports GT class there was much interest in how the SportsGT class would perform on what appears to be a quickening track. (Or are the drivers getting better
)

A mix of cars was ran in this class including those from Fly, SCX, Pro-Slot, Scalextric and Ninco as the more potent cars were given a well earned rest! Last time out in this class only Mike Buss scored over 70 laps in the 4x 2mins heats although software teething problems had a factor in stopping other drivers acheiving this. This time however saw 5 drivers clock up more than 70 laps and one hit an impressive 80.

Hot on the heels of last week there was plenty of anticipation that the sports cars could match Steve's limited mods F1 car and reach 20 laps in an official heat. Well let me tell you the 20 lap barrier was well and truly beaten, with the limited mods cars and saw 4 drivers score 20 or more laps in a least 1 heat. Those being Steve Morrow, Ryan Kneale, Chris Angold and Brian Harrison. With Lane 4 proving to be the pick of the bunch with all 4 scoring 20 or more on this lane.

At the foot of the table Pete Lawther scored 62.58 to edge Mike Dove 62.03 by just over half a lap, With Dave Kneale a lap and a half ahead of Pete on 64. Ray Beattie 66 and Geoff Harrison 65 occupied 9th and 10th respectively. Brian Harrison picked up 8th place with 67.16 laps beaten by 8/100ths by Dave Capelan but looking at Brian's laps it was clear that only for a breakdown on lane 2 he would have been pushing for a top 2 finish. 6th place went to Chris Priest just 3/4 of a lap ahead of Dave C on 68 laps.

The top 5 drivers all scored over 70 laps a huge leap forward in terms of performance from last time out with Andy White notching up 71 laps in 5th, Mike Buss reaching 72 laps in 4th. Another driver who suffered car problems and finished 3rd was Chris Angold who notched up 73 laps despite losing 3+ laps in Lane 3. Second place went to Ryan Kneale with 75 laps and way out on his own in 1st was Steve Morrow who found another level in his Fly Porsche scoring 20/21/18/21 for a total of 80 laps.

Steve also clocked a new lap record for the class coming in at 5.486 seconds! Brian Harrison also put in a notably fast lap of just 5.52 seconds dead.

24/03/2011 - Classic and S1600 Rally - SlotRallyGB Rules

Following on from the Sports class where the racing was fast and furious came the Classic and S1600 rally, which were run together. A slightly more subdued pace was to be expected with most drivers giving a maiden voyage to their brand new SCX Escort Mark II's in a variety of liverys. (Thanks Dave!). This was also the first time rally cars had been run in race conditions on the big club track.

12 cars took to the track with 8 SCX Escorts, a Fly Ferrari 250 and a Team Slot Renault Alpine making up the Classic class and an SCX Ford Fiesta and a Ninco Punto running in the S1600. It is worth mentioning that most of the SCX Escorts were being run straight out of the box and suffered a disinct lack of grip with no tyre trueing and limited practise time. As a consequence we were treated to some great powerslides out of the tricky corners and the marshalls were twitching as some corners were taken on two wheels

Dave Kneale in his Ninco Punto squeezed Pete Lawther's Escort into the bottom position overall beating him by just 0.64 of a lap. Dave also finshed the night 2nd in the S1600 class. A second 10th place finish of the night for Geoff Harrison SCX Escort on 54 laps was followed with a second 9th place finish of the night by Ray Beattie (57 laps) and another 8th for Brian Harrison (61.42) both driving their SCX Escorts. Brian unfortunately was pipped by Chris Angold, who clinched 7th by a meagre 1/100th of a lap with Chris recording 61.43 laps in what is the closest finish to date.

The next three places were seperated by just 1.39 laps with Steve Morrow in his SCX Escort on 64 laps taking 6th, Dave Capelan Team Slot Alpine 5th on 65.26 laps and Ryan Kneale 4th just beating Dave with 65.39 laps in his SCX Fiesta and taking the spoils in the S1600 class. 3rd place went to Andy White in his Fly Ferrari 250, a car which caused a few tongues to wag with no pace man on board, clocking up 67 laps.

This left the two Mikes Buss and Dove shooting out for first place in their SCX Escorts with Mike Buss finishing 1 lap ahead of Mike Dove on 69 and 68 laps respectively. Interestingly the two Mike's total laps would have seen both men in the top 6 in the Sports GT class run earlier that evening.

Well that concludes last week's racing and this week sees the return of the HPI Nissans and the Saloon cars. See you all Thursday.

Evening All,

31/03/2011 - HPI Nissan - RTR rules

This past Thursday saw the return of the Manx Slot Car Club's RTR series the HPI Nissans. As mods are not allowed in this class it offers some of the closest racing at the club and driver skill rather than machinery is often the key to clocking up plenty of laps

Whilst the Nissans aren't the fastest class we have raced they are certainly no slouches on the straights and their narrower wheel base means the marshalls are kept on their toes with some great tail out action.

As the weeks progress we have seen more and more people decorate their cars with stickers transfers and go faster stripes! This week however Brian Harrison turned up in a day glo orange resprayed GTR 34 which with its hi-vis certainly helped the marshalls out

Anyway lets get on to the results bringing up the rear this week was Pete Lawther (13th) who was just a lap and a half behind Geoff Harrison. Geoff (12th) in turn was beaten by Dave Capelan (11th) by just 0.39 laps. Dave though had a nightmare as what he suspected were car troubles turned out to be a hand controller not being plugged in far enough and as a result his car stopped on lane 3 costing him 7-9 laps based on his other lane results.

The next three racers were seperated by just 0.44 laps with Andi Burt making the top 10 after just reaching 60 laps with 60.01. Dave Kneale (9th) was just a further 33/100ths up the road and Ray Beattie (8th) just 11/100ths ahead of Dave K. Mike Dove claimed 7th place with 63.23 laps pipped by just 21/100ths into 6th by Chiris Priest.

The top 5 opened up a 5 lap gap on the rest with 5th place going to Andy White 68.89 laps. Brian Harrison took 4th with 69.81 laps and was the top placed GTR 34 with the top three all running the GTR 32's. Brian was kept out of the top three by just 4/100ths of a lap by Chris Angold who secured third with 69.85 laps. Ryan Kneale finished in 2nd place just creeping over the 70 barrier with 70.24 laps.

This left Steve Morrow out on his own in 1st place racking up an impressive 74.52 laps with a consistent haul of 19 laps on three lanes and 17 on the other. Last time out Steve won with 73 laps so this is a new class record.

31/03/2011 - Saloon Cars - Limited Mods

The second class of the night was the Saloon cars with limited mods. Last time out no drivers broke the 20 lap barrier but with about half of the drivers debuting new machinery expectations were high that 20 laps could be broken this time.

A vast array of cars were run but the predominant car running was the ProSlot Alfa 156 with 5 drivers opting to run this in a variety of liveries.

On to the racing itself it became apparent early on in the heats that the pace had been turned up a notch since this class was last run with laptimes under 6 seconds being frequently recorded. Four drivers also cracked the 20 lap barrier with Ryan Kneale, Steve Morrow and Chris Angold notching up 20 laps on lane 2, Dave Capelan on lane 3 and Ryan Kneale again on Lane 4.

Pete Lawther finished a galant 13th (57.59 laps) in a fresh out of the box car just beaten into 12th by Ray Beattie by a lap and a bit. 11th place went to Chris Priest on 59.9 laps before a gap of 3.29 laps to 10th place Geoff Harrison. A second 9th place of the evening was secured by Dave Kneale by the narrow margin of just 4/100ths of a lap, Dave also needed a quick pitsop between heats to glue on a rear wheel that had lost adhesion with the axle. 8th place went to Mike Dove a full lap and a bit ahead of Dave K. 7th place was Brian Harrison who was having a little trouble with his Alfa on Lane 3 and as a consequence he was unable to repeat his second place finish from last time out in this class.

6th was Andy White (68.91 laps) in the second day glo car of the evening this time it being a Ninco Megane. The top 5 consisted of 4 ProSlot Alfa's and 1 Fly Audi Quattro showing us that the ProSlot despite its age is still a top car in this class. 5th place was Andi Burt in a White ProSlot clocking up 71.18 laps. 3rd and 4th spots were hotly contested between Chris Angold Red ProSlot and Steve Morrow Fly Audi with both driver beating the previous best of 74 laps scored by Steve last time. Steve just getting the better of Chris with 74.79 laps to Chris 74.11. Incidently Chris clocked up the fastest lap of the night with a 5.5 dead which shows that more than 20 laps is a possibilty in the future.

2nd place in his new Red ProSlot Alfa sporting NSR ultragrips was Dave Capelan with 75.7 laps whilst the winner was Ryan Kneale also in a new Yellow ProSlot ALfa with 77.01 laps a new class record.

Well thats it for now, next week sees The Modified Sports GT Class return and with a new Mosler appearing almost weekly it looks set to be a fast and furious grid and a great evenings racing. Expect lap records and laps completed record to go!!!!

Great report, thanks Ryan. Just a personal preference, but would it be possible to use the lane colour rather than a number, or maybe both? I've got no idea what lane numbers are, but I know what lane colour I am racing on. Maybe it's just me, and if so then I had better just learn the lane number!

As well as the Modified Sports GT/Le Mans class next week there is also a free practice period where you will get chance to try a few other cars. Please feel free to ask advice from any other club member if you are wondering what car to buy or how to improve your current car as I'm sure we are all willing to help.
Steve.
