My six week forced "all stop" is now up... I'm not "fully right" but enough to be back at work full time

But Miss Scorpio has me doing those house jobs that have been neglected for the last six months... Helped my son move out of uni and into mine for the summer last weekend... got to go and sort the garden out at my "other house" where the weeds are three feet tall... and its the busiest month at work.... doh!

My "Den/Man space" is being overhauled at the moment so i can get the PC for SSDC in as well as a new TV and shelving for the rather excessive car collection some of which still need chipping... With the the first two layouts in, Furniture planning is a lot easier... Although the room also has to house my extensive 20 year collection of games consoles and games and I'm currently reworking the "home network" to get the PC/XBOX etc all connected in that room... Not to mention the tamiya radio controlled cars and book collection!

So much to do and so little time... Inlaws coming to stay next weekend... But another couple of weeks and all that should be sorted and layout finishing off and number three can commence.

Fantastic track layouts and tilting idea for your tracks.
I will be building a tilting layout - but not wall mounted.

Are these the clips (#C8232 Track Fixing Side Clips ) you used to secure your track ?
How about these (#C8255 4 / 6 / 8 Lane Middle Clip) ?
Any photos of the clips in use?

Thank you for helping a newbie.

Where does the time go...

Just a quick post to all those that have PM'd me to ask if all is ok....

Yeah, health is ok, ribs are ok, tummy has turned out to be a problem after all the tablets and work is a nightmare!!!! my 16 week "enforced break" took its toll on my workload and with car driving once again possible for distances i have been out and about visiting clients and generally just running the business... sacking people... doing their work etc etc it is a recession after all!

I am knackered the last 2 weeks have flown by had a house full last weekend and i'm hoping after 4 months without a day off i will finaly get a proper "holiday" even if its just a few days with my feet up.... sorry one and all that i have been so quiet, but with house renovations nothing scalextric wise has moved on since i broke the ribs... Two working layouts on the wall, 9 cars still to chip although the chips are waiting... this time i hope not to put the soldering iron through the 250 GTO body.

Will be back on form soon... Had a full server crash at work last week and spent three days recovering the network so no internet to use at lunchtime hope everybody is well...

I don't know if he does or not. That could be his wife writting to stop us from calling the law to check up on him. When I start seeing either some advice, or building I won't believe it.

Oh No....

I have that horrible itching feeling that its time for a tear down and rebuild....

The oval worked... Its good fun but a 10ft oval just simply isn't big enough for any real skill to be involved a 2.5 second lap means the slightest slip means its almost impossible to make up lost time even against "Drone" opponenets... Pits stops add fun but the high speed nature makes it deadly to use cars with too much detail due to the collision risk...

The Racetrack is great and the parabolic curves makes it easy for a novoce to pick up and play... drone cars can lap fairly well especially if set to run "always change lanes" it keeps them out of the R1 inner curves but some cars are so quick the progressive curves mean they can lap in 4.8 seconds and that makes the track a bit dull with those.... De-Magging helps make it more fun but slows things down a bit too much and with 4 cars in such a small race uts often less than 3 laps before somebody de-slots... mmmm

The third track was put on hold... lessons learned above and the possibilities of the new powerbase allowing 2 lane analogue or digital cars in a simple package put off building that.... Santa brought me mine for xmas.... Oh how i prevented myself punching my girlfriend who said it had been under the bed since my birthday in November but decided to give it to me for xmas instead... argh!!!!

So three the track idea is good but with all that track, three "compromised" tracks instead of one big one... mmmm I think maybe a big one would be better...

So friends one and all.... your opinions are valued...

i could build a permanent multi layer affair in the same space to increase the lap from say 40ft to 80ft....

I could go to the loft... and build a big single track.... or... Go back to the drawing board and build two or three tracks in one.... One powerbase but using the "digital" track pieces to create long and short versions of the track.... A fast figure of 8 track to allow for good "pace car racing" with a twisty" extension used only when real racers are around to make a longer 20 second or so lap with complex R1 turns.... and then maybe a split off for a single lane rally track all three track combining together on the main straight for crossing the powerbase...

3 different tracks.... 3 very different laps.... 3 lap records... 3 different races... all in one build... or am i just going barking mad!

all opinions welcome!

hi sean
my own preference if i had the apb is go for the single track build up in the loft. You have the best of both worlds in analouge and digital and hopefully you have a nice sized space you can make use of.

What is the usable space in your loft.?

Good to see you back sean.

Oh yeah the loft....

Umm its uninsulated... unfloored.... but has power... So its a big job to get it ready.... and not an insubstantial investment...

Size wize its about 16ft wide and about 30ft at floor level about 20ft+ at waist height... so plenty of space if i juggle between the A frames...

Mr Scorpio! Welcome back to the land of the typing.

In answer to your dilemma I ask another question (as always). How much space can you steal without going up to the loft? What about single track drop down with fold out wings? Or modular as you were intending for the rally stage?

Still, I guess the more hassle it is to use it the less likely it is to be used.

Cheers

Even coach operators get a holiday sometime Embs....

Hopefully be back in the land of typing posts rather than reading them from now on... but the tiny tears still looks well pretty... Spent the last month destroying GT5 on the Playstation 3 only for them to add all the difficult to get cars with a software free update.... makes all the hard work seem pointless... argh!

Fold out wings.... mmmm ohhh bodyform... sorry.... no seriouslsy one problem of having a 10ft x 4ft layout in a 10ft x 8ft room is finding space to put the TV games consoles and the racers as well....... A race night turns into a series of overweight gentlemen shuffling in and out of the room 4 at a time with no space for spectating putting down beer mugs etc etc...

In all my detailed planning I never really realised how much space 4 people take up in a small room... doh!

Part permanent part folding... is an interesting idea but unless i can find a few size zero females to race with.... any takers.... anywhere?

Not usually in holiday season in my neck of the woods. Oh, but then it's winter in the real world. I forget these things.

Ah yes, the slightly 'larger gent'... hmmm.... Shoe horn? Olive oil? Ewww... wrongness!

But then do you want them stomping around in the loft either?
