Well Mountain Shopping Mall Rally

Hi there....
Well I'm starting a new smallish rally layout, build from Scalextric Sports and Classic track.

Here is a little video of the prototype shopping mall, I'm gonna build the track as a football stadium with the carriers for each floor coming from the back so as not to interrupt the line of sight with pillars carrying the floor above.

One purpose of this build is to make it so that it can be assembled and disassembled fast.
3 floors and 3 bridges, when packed away I plan on storing it on the wall.

cheers

you've got a seriously three dimensional brain to come up with that...fantastic of course, cant wait to see how you finish it off, how do the 2 wheel drive stuff get on with the steep ramps?

Superb concept. Can't wait to see the main structure be built around this track. Will really fool visitors when they come to race, I had enough trouble following the vid, expecting the car to go one way, and goes a completely different one

That's a pretty fantastic layout. I'll watch this one develop with great interest!

Excellent concept and build. Looks like you based it on the Castle Terrace car park in Edinburgh :- )
That's amazing Lars! Fantastic concept and layout. Now I realize that you have a rally theme in mind, but if you ever want to take a little break: promise me that you'll recreate the Ferrari parking garage scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off!

2 wheel cars goes fine as well thanks, and cars goes a lot faster the other way around due to the steep entrance ramp and the not so steep exit ramp.
As to my 3 dimensional brain..I'm not too sure... hmmm well at least I dream in colour and with sound :)
Thanks

When driving for a fast lap, you really have to keep your eyes on the car at all times, and forgetting to count how many rounds you did in a layer will send you flying.

He he, I remember that one
I just hired the guy with the ponytail as Car Park Manager, I guess I shoud have checked his credentials a little bit better :)

I'm really in a dilemma as to how I'll decorate it.
On one side I can see it as this brand new Hi tech funkes parking lot with a helipad and a tower with a carousel cafeteria at the top.
On the other it could be somewhere deep in the hood, worn down with graffiti on the walls, burning barrels with people standing around, custom cars with those hydraulic jump thingies showing off, a looted and burned out car here and there, and some homeless people in the corners.

I'm thinking of making the facades in cardboard and attach them using Velcro tape then using photo textures on top of the cardboard maybe I could skin it differently from time to time ?????

thanks all

You're not kidding when you say you're fond of spaghetti

I like the seen-better-days, down and out 'hood flavouring idea for scenery myself. So many layers of texture available to play with. Still, you can always make it shiny new and hi-tech and just let the gangs move in and take over.

Either way, I expect to see a few Tuners with heavy graphics and large doof-doof sound systems to make an appearance.

Cheers

start with the underclass ghetto on the basement, up to the middle class wannabees and finally into the 3rd floor jet set hi flyers?
the game is in what layer do you fall off....or you reach the top and then woops right down to the bottom again...much like real life!

I love that one :)

I have actually been thinking a lot about Blade Runner while doing this layout as well as a comic book series written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Jean Girard Moebius called The Incal.
Even if your not into comics this is a must read anyway :)

Further more Fritz Lang's Black'n' White Metropolis has been lurking around in my mind.

Wooh .. now you're talking. There's some 6 or 7 parts to that one, Incal & Difool .. don't get the newer computer colored versions, that's butchering the fine tone or *aura* of the originals from 80-ies .. And btw. an apprentice to Moebius [Z Janetov I think] has been allowed to continue [digidraw] the series.

.. Uh-oh .. some replikants have just run amok in a parkinglot, Deckard. Get on the job ..

Love it!!

Thought this, filmed just down the road from where I go to college, may be of interest. Linky

Wo-hoo .. but, that reminds me of .. Elwood and Jake goes shopping!! ..

-- Baby clothes...
-- This place has got everything.
-- The new Oldsmobiles are in early this year! .. and so on ..

Ah well, everything gets recycled these days .. Btw, watched *the Bourne Ultimatum* only yesterday .. some serious driving in that one too ..

The Top Gear segment was an intended 'tip of the cap' to Blues Brothers.
wow I had never seen that one(Blues Brothers I have...many times), it's amazing, I love it when he says "125 hp is really all you need on marble". And when the classical music takes over it's just so nice and easy.

"we've got a full tank of gas we've got cigarets, and we've got sunglasses........."

thanks for the input, makes me think that I'm not completely mad, and gives me some ideas to maybe make some of the scenery inside like :) instead of only a parking lot......hmmm how to comprehend this...
I think its

Its a 106 miles to Chicago.
We've got a full tank of gas,
half a pack of cigarettes,
its dark, and we're wearing sunglasses
HIT IT.
You need a Blues Mobile Psrrfh. Cop tyres... Cop suspension... etc etc

WOW!!! PSRRFH

Just found this thread, and was seriously impressed, but couldnt figure the "Well Mountain" connection as I'm sure there are no mountains in Denmark.

Then as I was checking out the youtube vid of connecting tracks I found the others you had posted....................................

Well Mountain is awesome

Nice to see my pal Malatwolves getting good results in the SCX proxy.

Look forward to seeing most posts on both of these as I am now seriously addicted to building a rally stage in a similair( although smaller) vane.

Thanks, I'll be looking forward for your build, when racing alone Rally is the perfect format, and if all the track is within reach you don't kill your self running to the end of the table to retrieve a stray car:)

The cars that Malatwolves entered for the proxy was very nice(Most of them were) especially his ferrari as it was so quiet and smooth as well as fast, and his Lancia Delta was just a monster on wheels(I think the real 1:1 thing was supposed to be unpredictable)
Next SCX round will be at one of oldslotracer's amazing tracks and I can't wait to see how the cars will do there.

thanks all for watching,
You guys have no idea of how boring it is to sit around starring at 3 floors of drywall mud drying. it's been all most a week now !!!! and then I'll have to wait for another week to work on it again. :-(

@RON
The Incal is just one amazingly good science fiction Comic, unfortunately I sold my comic book collection many years ago, still kicking my pretty behind to this day

Perhaps not 3 floors... but well.
I'm lucky enoguh thtat the weather has turned in my favour when it comes to drying. 5 days has turned to 1. Yay!!!!
I empathise though, having worked on the track through winter. There's a limit to how long one can afford to run a fan heater just to dry the track works.
