Well Mountain Shopping Mall Rally

Hi there....
Well I'm starting a new smallish rally layout, build from Scalextric Sports and Classic track.

Here is a little video of the prototype shopping mall, I'm gonna build the track as a football stadium with the carriers for each floor coming from the back so as not to interrupt the line of sight with pillars carrying the floor above.

One purpose of this build is to make it so that it can be assembled and disassembled fast.
3 floors and 3 bridges, when packed away I plan on storing it on the wall.

cheers

Feliz Natal, Lars.

Great looking BMW! Is the track okay?
Thanks Bruno, and a nice Christmas for you and your family too.
The BMW is made by fly and I really would like a Ford Capri to run against it, however it's a front engine setup and I really haven't had much success with setting up front engine vehicles.
And then it really needs a light kit if you ask me.

Looking forward to your update on this years Christmas present for your self :) I remember last year and the massive amount of kits you had bought.

happy new year to all.
Well since I've been busy replicating miniature stuff the last couple of days I had to drive a little today.
So I hooked up the shopping mall with the double reversing loop and made a little in-car video.

Please don't watch if you get seasick easy.

Thanks for the seasickness warning. What a ride! Put that on a larger screen, add a chair on a rock'n'swivel, and I think you could sell tickets for that.

The uplights in the track look great. Good to see things back on track.

Cheers

thanks Embs, some times you need a bucket of humiliating cold water or two, to get all fired up and get those creative juices flowing.

kind regards.....
Yet another driving video of the stand alone mall.

enjoy.
Wow looks great buddy!

Did I miss the re-painting of the track and the fitting of the lights?

Hope you are enjoying it.

Simon
Hi Simon
The "Paintjob gone wrong" was a real bummer so I didn't really document it.
But basically I sanded the damage areas and repainted it by hand.
And the lights I just bought a Cristmas chain of lights and drilled holes in the track.
Then to fill iup the remaining part of the hole I filled them up with wood glue which turns transparent when dry and the sanded it gently to be flush with the track.

It's great fun to drive it and it can be done a lot faster than in the videos, but it's really difficult filming and driving at the same time.

thanks for watching
Great atmosphere Lars! I do like the lighting, really adds to it :) Great idea to make the lights recessed, way more realistic effect.
I always use cheap Xmas lightchains when it comes to lighting the track - nowadays you can even buy LED-strings for a few euros and those lights are so tiny and shiny!

I wish i had the space to make a permanent track and go deeper into finer modelling like yours, taking my time and working on a track for longer time... *sigh* :)

Cheers!

Merc

p.s. for filming: ask a friend to film the happening when you are driving, worked for me ;-)
Lars, The lights give it a great atmosphere. Really enjoyed some of the cars you presented, you probably know the ones I am thinking about.
What is the next step?
WOW!

Absolutely fantastic.... and breathtaking.
Like everyone said, the lights give an extra excitement and create a fantastic atmosphere in the shopping mall. I also enjoyed the U turn on the top of the track, that looks like a cassino roulete.
looking forward for updates!
cheers

Love the vid in post #66 .. It's an amazing concept, this shopping mall of yours!

Could you do a vid without all the external lights on? Only with the small spots/Leds and lights from the cars. Would that work and be sufficient?

[Btw. *Run Like Hell* by Pink Floyd could suit as soundtrack somewhere in the background?]

Looks great Lars, and with the cold weather and snow in Denmark (I am in Copenhagen for a few days) I guess you should get plenty of time to work on your tracks

obviously you need to build a 1:32 scale shopping cart with the left overs from the stairs and your new found soldering ability...liking the white ness of the track..have you seen thisgti project site, all white and only 'puinctuated ' by cool lighting...giving me ideas for track number 1 when it gets redone!!

stay warm sig
Now you should know by now health and safety says you can't have spectators standing on the track
Great vid tho

Hi and thanks RonMcRain
I'll do a night drive when I have installed lights in the two other layers.
Youtube sometime nuke the soundtrack if it's copyrighted music so I usually make my own or nothing at all.
funnily though I just found this on youtube.(Wonder how it survived a year there??)
Cool link
(Hint: if you want "Run Like Hell" go to 1:16.22)

it reminded me of this though:

I'm real happy for the snow.
It's great with my kid and he loves it so actually my time is rather limited.
enjoy your stay.

Ouch I'll burn my chuppy fingers on a shopping cart but it would be cool :) thanks for the idea. (You should be making furniture this way after all you are the expert :)(stackable chairs ala Arne Jacobsen)
I'm starting on a kitchen unit soon. :)

I have seen the GTI site before and I like the look of that track(The architect look I call it), the thing is that I'm too untidy to ever do something like that. (not to mention keep it looking that way)

You can't keep those crazy Rally spectators/Photographers away from a good crash spot.
And I'm not much for safety regulations anyway. :)

Good to see that he keeps cool and makes sure to get the shot before he runs to help :)

Well I'm building a little extension bridge to configure the shopping mall a bit differently.
It's mainly consisting of a Grand Chicane with built in lights in all three pieces.

And in case you should be wondering about the music in the background it's yours truly Old Rusty McPsrrfh on the acoustic guitar.

My son loves the shopping mall because it's perfect for his height and he can see everything.
And it has places for him to park his static cars/ or the slotcars for that matter.

Chips 'n' Dibs
hiya rusty!, great, i hoped there'd be more in store for the mall..(slight play on words there!!), and it seems you can't leaue anything alone for more than a week or two...liked the guitar plucking too, look up a friend' dusty stray' he plays similar stuff in holland.

cheers sig
