project Mini Sprint ... in the works for the ProNoMag

something went wrong on the wheelbase of the scratchbuilt chassis for the Mini Sprint.
so - correction works ...
and new ball bearings -finally found some with ABEC5 classisfication for 2mm axles, but sadly no flange.
nothing that can´t be dealt with ...
made a groove in the axle and one in the crown gear, a piece of copper wire will be added later, to secure the crown gear from slipping on the axle

Thanks Peter I probably will send it on later. The body for my next build has just arrived in the form of a Heller Xjr 9 kit ,However this may also just be a development car as my final build is likely to be vac formed, to keep the weight and c of g down .Currently I'm considering a clone of my Wolverhampton winning Mini chassis from some years back as it is very forgiving to drive and was stupidly fast .

Hello Graham, I love that brass chassis. most of my 1/43 chassis are brass as I enjoy working with it. But, unlike the other slot car scales, we have very few hot motors in 1/43, so heavier brass chassis are often at a disadvantage against plastic and 3DP chassis.

As my main interest is rallying, the heavier brass chassis can be, and often are, very competitive, as out and out performance is often less important on a challenging, twisting rally stage, than a low c of g.

Here's one that has been on my bench for a long time, but did get some work done to it a month or two ago to. Brabham bt24. It has overwide rear tyres in most of these photos but they will be scale width when finished. It has a RadioShack 7.5v FF030 motor, piano wire and brass chassis, Wizard crownwheel and pinion, turned alloy wheels and. Urethane rear tyres from William, in France.

Lloyd the mini is powered by a scale auto 30k slim can and was an absolute middle on Wolves international track Winning one year and then finishing second the next to Chris Adams equally fast Trabant the cars were so evenly matched there was only inches between them in both races. The chassis works with a centre flexible spine which is very effective and gives a slight steering effect and the car can be driven very hard into the corners with out fear. The idea will have to be 're engineered for 1/43 in lighter material so I hope it will work as well but we have a year to experiment

Graham, are you taking orders for the new chassis? 😁
No unfortunately as I'm not as productive as I once was and it takes me a long time to build things these day, Most of my spare time gets eaten up with a Rock and Roll band but I'll do a step by step build as I normally do and build it in an uncomplicated way . They say your never too old to play but at nearly 70 it gets harder LOL

Latest update wit the Peugeot is this stainless steel rattle plate I've fitted ,At the moment its just replacing the fixed 3 g weight I've had attached centrally it will later be height adjustable . It is the same weight as the original however I will make one also in brass too which will be a little heavier ..

Latest up date on the Peugeot .I reinstalled the 3g weight along with the rattle plate and removed a little of theirs wobble by adding a nut to the shaft so I could tighten it a little .Results were I can now push it under The 9 sec barrier with best times of 8.88. Some of this performance is due to tyre prep .Which in a proxy race is something which can't be left for the host to do as you might do your self .No disrespect intended but we all have our own little methods and a race organiser must follow the same methods for each car so it is fair to all competitors .So I must now look at a urethane tyre which needs minimum amount of prep to return sufficient grip. I'm very pleased with this little car as it's making some of its bigger cousins worry.

tire preparation -- ProNoMag style:
drive the car as it comes from the sender. run it. clean tires with painters tape several time during practice.
during race - when the car deslots and feels like a cleaning will help laptimes it will be done.

Latest development ,Experimental car # 2 .While visiting an antique shop I found in a box of scrap die casts what I thought was a die cast 1/43 scale Porsche 917 in a sorry state with a broken fin. I thought I could make a mould from it and vac form a shell from it . However it turned out to be a plastic shell with a very heavy base . so Ive just done a straight conversion using Scalex HO chassis as a motor pod with traction mags removed and a styrene under tray glued and screwed in place . For the rear axle I enlarged the chassis holes and reamed out the contrate to fit a 3/32 axle. Rear tyres are sponge on some aluminium hubs ..Guide flag is an old scalex type .Front tyres are Scalex HO stretched onto the original 1/43 hubs .Its all just experimental at the moment but it flys round .I will repaint the shell when the weather improves but for now it makes a good practice car while I develop others .

Nice work Graham. I have used Micro Scalextric chassis as pods in 1/43 for some time.

I find it interesting that you reamed the rear end out to take a 3/32 axle. I have always used a 1/16 axle and have sometimes found that they did not run free straight off. What gears did you use?

The original Scalex one ,I had to trim a little off the width as the gear had expanded slightly tightening the mesh a bit.

Track tests of the 917 are very promising ,its lapping consistently about a half second quicker than the Peugeot and will go faster when I sort the grip level out . Currently it is running on old sponge tyres which are very much past their best ,I will prepare some soft rubber ones and some new sponge so I can do back to back tests . A deeper guide will also make it a little more less likely to de slot .It can be pushed very hard but once or twice on fast exits from corners it has lifted its nose and desloted

Good morning. I finished the body of the Rossi Porsche. Last problem was that Super Champion models don't have engine covers. As far as I know, Porsche 917s didn't have "open" engines. So I made a cardboard cover, painted it and added the correct decals. Now the chassis has to be procured and the correct wheel inlets have to be made.

Then I screwed the DS together. The rear rims are going to be really interesting. I had to cut off the screw flange so that the rims would even fit under the body.

Those wheels on DS looks too big, maybe you shoud consider using Ortmann 40b tires (7mm wide 13 mm outer diameter) with printed 9x7 wheel from pfuetze shop at shapeways.
9mm wheel would be close to 15" wheel

I've seen a few posts of the Beetle bodies now, but I don't think I've seen the full story anywhere. Did you cast those?
