As some of you on here know, there had been a bit of banter between myself and Aaron regarding my "commission" for bringing a couple of lost souls onto this forum. This was all harmless fun and it ended with Aaron saying he was going to send me some Daytona Brake discs for fun.

This morning the postie arrives with a large box - compliments of Aaron. Funny I thought; I know you have to be mindful of the trained gorillas drop kicking parcels about the wagons, but this is a bit excessive for some small, flat plastic discs.

Upon opening the package I got the best surprise I've had in a long time - Aaron had only sent me a slot car as well as the discs!
Not only that, but it was a FLY 908/2 from Sebring 1970 which had only been released a short while ago!! Pendleslot still have it listed in their news section as part of FLY's forthcoming releases! Thank you so much Aaron, the car is a perfect companion to my Lola T70 of the same era
Enjoy the pictures below.

Seeing as Aaron's compliment slip had his phone number on it. I decided the least I could do was thank the chap personally. We had a great conversation - he was glad the the car had arrived safely and hadn't smeared its tampo printing all over the box nor reduced to kit form either. This leads into my next bit of information.

I commented that the rear wheels were pushed on a bit tight (sidewinder configuration), but I've got spacers to sort it out. I know what you guys are thinking...ungrateful bugger..get a free, new slot car and he's whingeing about it already. NO! this is constructive feedback which is precisely why Aaron is on this board. he's here to help.

Aaron mentioned yes, they quite often do that, but we are looking into it. FLY's MD is coming over to Gaugemaster very soon to look into the Porsche 917 problem (wheels rubbing on bodywork). Aaron has deliberately run a standard car on the track so that significant tyre wear is visible thanks to the interfereing bodywork. He's also run another 917 for that same amount of time, but it has the spacers fitted to demonstrate how easily the problem can be fixed. If that isn't proof of a company listening to our complaints then what is?

Right here's the pics of my car. I'll try and get my wife to model the Daytona brake disc necklace soon - she's camera shy.

The Porsche is a really bright, vibrant orange colour - I shouldn't lose sight of it on the track!

Cheers Aaron!!
Mark.

He`s a top man! Adrian is the same kind of guy too.,organising the prizes for the event. The fact that they make a big effort all round leads me to think that things will just get beter and better. aaron has been first class on here and a credit to gaugemaster Controls. Give them a fair chance and they`ll do the business.

I can only say the same, Aaron sent me 2 fly chassis to replace the bad ones from Fly Gulf GT-40's and new rear axles. Not only was he not my dealer or distributor on these, but I am in the USA and they were sent very quickly free of charge. I am still waiting on the brake discs he promised but yes he is top notch in everyway.

I have only dealt with a select few who were this great to work with here in the US.

Thanks Aaron

Well, my wife wouldn't model the necklace, but my little girl did

The dark grey bits near the centre of the chain are the discs! Brian, you'd better check that Aaron hasn't included your car's discs in my package

Cheers,
Mark.

note to self - if Mark asks for a pair of BMW rear axles he is probably making ear-rings out of them. If he asks for floorpans, then he has gone into bikini production.

You lucky boy "Diff", that's one car I shall be hoping to purchase this sunday at the NEC.

I too would like to echo "Johnny's" remarks and
Aaron for his contribution.

Aaron has left the Forum today, which is a blow after all the good he has done lately. I`m sure that Nuro will deal with the reasons why etc so don`t ask me for any more info. I just think it`s a real shame and I hope he can find a way back.

following on from jonnys last statement
aaron has spoken to me about his leaving the forum and again im sure the reasons will be discussed at length in other areas
i would just like to say that aaron is a friendly ear to the mover shakers in our hobby and i think its a crying shame that the forum has lost that ear for whatever reason !!!!
there really shouldnt be any reason why a forum about slot cars should raise the stakes that high that a valued member should feel obliged to leave
in my limied time here aaron has been an invaluable source of knowledge and considered opinion and has sorted out countless probs for people just in the last month
surely a forum of this type needs the likes of aaron if it is to influence the industry to our varied needs at all levels of the hobby !!!!

I think we were very fortunate that Aaron chose to join this forum, and I think it is our loss that he has decided to leave.
For someone in his position to do that was quite brave, because it was obvious that he would take some stick, especially regarding Fly. And who needs extra aggro in their lives?
It shows his dedication to the hobby, and to improving things for the likes of us - for example, taking up our gripes with Fly management.
Not to mention his generosity towards many forum members (parts, cars etc) and his generally pleasant and helpful manner.
And what happens? We (or certain people amongst us ) manage to p*** him off so much that he leaves within weeks!!!

Makes you proud to be an SF member, doesn't it?

It shouldn't have been obvious that Aaron would take some stick. He was the messenger and you're not supposed to shoot them!
I don't know the reasons why he left (maybe someone can email me?), but he was forced to leave because his professionalism would not really allow any other solution IMHO.

It's a sad reality that every organisation (collection of like minded enthusiasts) attracts their (un)fair share of scumbags. It's happened with the various Capri clubs up and down the country. We've had scumbags in the online racing game I play.

I don't represent any company. I just represent me - Difflock - plain and simple. If someone gets up my nose on here I can dive straight in, say what I feel, upset anyone I choose to on this forum, safe in the knowledge I will get a swiftly meted out moderator-generated ban WITHOUT any greater repercussions. So scumbags are nought in my sight apart from a target for a damn good keyboard thrashing!

The fact is I try and remain civil and yes, friendly to forum members because the hobby is a slightly better place if we all get along.

Have recieved a message from Guagemaster saying that he has decided to leave. I too will miss his advice help and assistance, and general chat and presence on the forum.

The matters which led to this decision are none of my business, though I have seen some of the events. I respect his decision, though would be very pleased if at some time in the future he chose to return
