Do you print wheel inserts on their back or on the edge of the rim? I tried resin printing inserts but the 12 transition layers ruin the effect so you lose detail near the print bed.

I think Alexie was waiting to bust his HD pic folder for this forum! ;-)
@Kevan I find it depends on the insert. The Lola inserts print better on edge (vertical) whereas the wire wheels print better on the flat back.

Speaking of which

Those small supports should minimise resin waste.
This is my first successful body print from my printer.

Automotive lighting Bumper Motor vehicle Automotive design Automotive exterior

Printer: Qidi Tech Shadow 6.0
Resin: 80% Elegoo ABS-like resin
20% Siraya Tech Tenacious

Layers: 0.03 mm
Exposure time: 5 sec.

Printed at 45°, Chitubox heavy supports (auto generated)
Printing Time: 12 hrs. 17 min.

I was mostly pleased with the result. The shell is a little thin, but the Tenacious resin makes it pretty flexible. It can be dropped on the floor with no ill effect. I’m a little concerned about the thinness of the shell; is there any way to increase the thickness?

Detail is okay, but there are features that didn’t turn out as sharply as I’d like: panel lines, latches, etc. However, the windscreen rivets seem to have shown up well. Is the lack of detail a result of insufficient exposure time, or too much? I have printed the XP2 validation file several times and with this resin combo/mix, 5 seconds seems to give the best performance.

The triangular crack at the rear of the interior is the result of over-aggressive support removal. I was able to simply pull most of them away from the body with very little effort, and they left NO divots or bumps. Next time, if a support gives me a little resistance, I will clip it rather than yank.

All in all, I’m happy with what came out; it’s a body I’ve wanted for years, but didn’t have the funds to buy one of the resin ones that have been for sale ($100+). This one cost me 83 cents plus printer time.

"is there any way to increase the thickness?"
There is - I have a friend who has printed some bodies at 1/24 scale for me in resin and he increased the shell thickness because he thought it was too thin for resin. I will ask him what program he used and if it is a simple process.

cheers
David
I use Meshmixer, but other programs will do it as well. MakePrintable is an online service but it is NOT free.
Not sure if you can with resin printing software, try increase the layers when slicing .
I always clip resin supports after cracking a print trying to snap the supports...this was very early on when I first got the resin printer.

The easiest way to reinforce the walls is brush uv resin inside and cure it. ShoeGoo is another way.

I never really sussed meshmixer, what do you do to thicken a wall with it Paul?

Blender can do it and it is free
Which tool in Blender?
This is a great community. I messaged my mate and he said Blender and Meshmixer - I get on here and you chaps have already shared that :) Now we just need some links to Youtube videos on how to do it...

Here is a link I found -

Can you choose inside or outside adjustment, or is that 'offset' in either plus or minus direction?
