well, I collect nice cars.
lets say, some of the cars I like

has done that all my life, that I know of.
as a kid, (born in 1960, in Holland) matchbox and dinkytoys, later the kits in 1;24, later slotcars, later the matchbox I used to have and where lost, later hotwheels, later slotcars, later johnny lighting, later slotcars...

but, one red line; 99% is American beauty's.
'50, '60, hotrods, musclecars.
have sold or given away most of former collections, and take it sssslowww now, so I buy not the new stuf, but the nice usa-cars, when they are out for a while, and when I realy, realy like the livery.
so, soon I will get that blue scalextric corvette that's been out for a while. or shall I wait a little..
nah..
because i have bought so many cars of which I later thaught...; well, wish I waited a little.... (once 56 on one hollyday-trip..)

but hey, I have Fun !

I just buy what I like the look of. No real preference for any particular group / manufacturer at present.

Although I must admit to making several purchases based on the most excellent reviews on this site.

My Fifties thing is kind of spiralling. Currently stands at:

Scalextric Maserati 250F Fangio
Scalextric Vanwall VW10 Moss
Scalextric-based Mac P 'Ferrari 801' Collins
Scalextric-based Mac P 'Ferrari 801' Hawthorn
Carrera D-Type relivery as Hawthorn 1955 Silverstone
Carrera D-Type relivery as Claes/Swaters 1955 Le Mans
MMK Aston Martin DBR1 to be reliveried as Moss/Brabham 1958 Nurburgring 1000km
Top Slot Austin Healey 100 1953 Le Mans

Soon to follow will be a pair of Mac P's new 1958 Dinos for the Early Bird and I've plans for a Lotus XI, Jaguar Mk1 and Ferrari 250TR together with a pair of the new Scalextric Coopers, one to be reliveried as Moss's 1961 International Trophy winner.

As far as branching out goes, I've got hold of three generations of Porsche 911 for the Winter Rally - the Fly 1970 Monte Carlo car, the Ninco 1984 Rothmans car and the Ninco 996 Ralle Deutschland 4x4 - although I'm losing the battle of talking myself out of adding a Mk1 and Mk2 Escort and possibly an Integrale to the travelling party!

There are some amazing collections here

I collect anything that i fancy, from any manufacturer or era type of racer or street car, if it catches my ye it goes in

The only thing i didn't collect are open wheelers of any kind, though i love F1

As models or slots they've just never appealled to me, Though the classic F1's that scaley are releasing really appeal and i may have to reveiw my rule.

currently have about 130 RTR cars from most of the manufacturers.
I also have several kit bashed projects completed or in variuos stages of completion.

Is my collection out of control? Possibly though after the last few months i have sold off about 30-40 cars so i must have some "sense" when it comes to collecting.

I have NO shelf queens, all of my cars are used as intended.

I have 65 cars at the moment.Number 66 is in the post and is a Slot it 956.Cant wait for it to arrive.
I have no stipulations to what I collect.
If I like it,and can afford it,I'll buy it.
I blame ebay for most of my collection. It's amazing how what starts off being an impulse bid cos it seems a bargain, soon turns into a bidding war cos you just gotta have it.

QUOTE (Rokkoko666 @ 19 Oct 2004, 08:38)I collect winners of Le Mans, Monte-Carlo and Paris-Dakar.

Kind regards // Richard

I finally got my two prized posessions out of their boxes:
Monte Carlo 1962 winner:

Monte Carlo 1963 winner:

Both times Erik Carlsson was the driver

Also got the New Man Porsche and the Le Mans Winner set from Slot.It... These are my shelf queens, the rest (around 55 cars) regularly see the track where they get raced hard

I have been collecting mostly older cars until now so I haven't bought a lot of new cars. Not that I don't like them but if I see an old car I really like, I rather buy that first instead of something new. I do not really care about much different liveries but from my biggest favourites I want to have more than one example (if possible). I also want to make sure every car gets a "running mate" sooner or later. Not always to really race against but simply too put on the track together or to put on display next to eachother. I have started 6 or 7 years ago and my first aim was to get some examples of nice cars of the earlier days. I don't want to get as much as possible of a given era but rather some nice examples that where typical or representative for the period. Of course a collection is never complete, it starts and then it keeps on growing. I haven't counted my cars lately but I know I have passed the 100+. It's difficult to describe my collection. I would call it slot cars, mostly vintage ones. Maybe 20% of my cars are recent production ones. Cheers, R

Since my last reply here I've been cutting down my collection. The Le Mans cars from 1989 and 1998 are alle sold and the 2000 collection (15 cars) is for sale now.
It simply got out of hand and the cars only got dusty on the shelf, so now I only have 20 cars from Le Mans 1970, 25 cars from Le Mans 2001 and 9 cars from Le Mans 2004 (which I went to see live) and 20 F1 cars.

Well I am a member of the Oxford Scalextric Club. I was worried about me going out of control and buying too many cars bla bla bla. So i bought a tool box and set up shelves in it for as many cars as i could fit. That number happened to be 27. So now i restrict myself to 27 cars, all of which race, all the boxes are in a cupboard. If i buy one more then i have to sell one on eBay.
27 cars isnt many but i like them all and well......... size isnt everything is it!?

I´m collecting Carrera EVOLUTION.
And... Yes, it has gone out of control. I´ve got about 220 from Carrera EVOLUTION (only one ist missing), the other 40-50 cars are from other companys (old and new ones).
My study looks like a toy store...

I collect modern GT cars and prototypes. Earliest car i have is the pink venturi that raced at le mans 93, most up to day is the scaley mc12 number 32, all my other cars date from somewhere between those two. Also have a couple of rally cars, but they came with a set, wanted the track, the cars are robust though and good for younger people to play with. Since getting an ebay account i have bought a number of new cars, although this has come to an abrupt halt, as my almighty mother has threatened me with selling the lot if i do.
So that gives me a total of 20 cars plus a running chassis for an original fly viper.

Cheers Phil

I just buy what I like, also keeping in mind how it will drive(even though I have a few that can't drive for squat). Seems like I'm biggest on the Ford GT line(GT40[have 2], MKII[have 1], and the new GT[have 1]), totalling 4 cars out of my nearly 60(all other cars are of varying types).
