I think it offers a bit - good & bad - for each of the chassis.
Just to clarify the one change to the F1 class from last year: No SRT.
No changes to the Classic Cup - so the Micro-Tyco battle recommences, with each chassis having scoring one top 3 A final finish last year. The Tyco club cars remain a good fallback option.
The Mega-G and SG+ still need to run on the big rear tyres, so the digital calipers will be out for scrutineering

I'm wondering if anyone can get close to Mike D and Clive this year. Looking at their recent national performances, it will be a challenge...

A real return to WHO form last night with 27 on the grid and 5 new faces for a championship round.
Welcome to Stephen, thanks to publicity at Gaugemasters; Rob, who has been in contact on email for a while, but finally made the plunge this month; and to Caz, Colleen and Liam who have been in touch via facebook. I hope they all had a fun night and will be back for more.
The evening was blighted by hardware problems on the the timing system. Thanks to Clive and Simon who helped me minimise those issues through the heats and finals - and to the four guys who counts laps in the A finals - the problems were hopefully not too obvious. But to those who weren't 100% happy, my apologies.
Thanks to Andrew and Gareth for stepping in on video duties while I was glued to the monitor all night. However, the gremlins also spread to my camera and a corrupted memory card means there is only one photo and I'm a bit down on video.
If anyone has photos, please post them here.
Finally, I have had to manually do the the F1 race sheet this morning, as the wrong one was used last night. I have double checked it, but let me know if you spot any errors.

Oh no! I do hope that wasn't caused by the photo in video mode I tried to take after the A final. Bad times indeed.
It was a little troubled with the timing gear going wrong last night but that really didn't detract from a great night of racing and an excellent layout to run on too. The corner after the back straight proved rather tricky to most of the field at one point or another. Everyone was pitching in to help one another and Race Control which was awesome.
Really good to so many new faces and I hope they all had fun and make lots more return visits. Rob is already signed up for garage racing when the new room is finished. I think his modified Mega G will be quick.

Another interesting night at "The Barn",,,,,Apoligies foir dashing off so quickly after our finals "SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED" was feeling a bit rough so had to check on her after cancelling her phone call!!!!!
A very BIG thank you to Mr Rose who lent me his chassis for the last couple of races,,,,what a difference there is in micro cars!!!!!!!!!! My car was constantly running on the crown gear but Andrew had his car set up with smaller hubs and tyres with no problems just goes to show how much attention to detail scaey use!!!!
So after a couple of bad runs the red lane proved to be fantastic for me with only 1 off in the final,,,,,so the big thing to say now is if anyone has any old micro rear axles they no longer need any chance I can have a look at them before you bin them please!!!!
As for timing problems all I can say is it`s not the barn without a problem or 2!!!!!!

Mike, that was a thumping win in your final. I always thought the Micro would suit you - and a bit of technical know-how from the MicroMeister is going to do no harm

I did really enjoy my time on track. I will definitely use a reworking of that circuit again. It worked for me because all the chassis did well, although it could have been kinder in a couple of places for the Micros. As Hannah said more than once "How can that happen?" as her car fell off turn six at 0mph

A quick consult of the track map reveals turn six to be the same corner I was having issues with....and most other drivers!! Really not sure what was happening there. You could belt through most of the lap but that corner was a pig dog! Maybe some gentle slot cleaning could be in order on those track pieces. Or maybe it was just the random connection of those two pieces of track. Who knows!
I must say I'm actually rather pleased with my lap scores after my yellow run which was actually practise! Using my back up Mega G (having killed the others) with a dark bodyshell and no practise, I'm not unhappy at all.
You will have such a surprise next time you see the garage. Work has progressed and the scale of the project has, um, escalated! And it wasn't my idea!!

Another great night's racing. A little disappointed at the result as I stuffed my final, but lots to take away from the evening. Two very strong gutter results (pretty much on tow from MD and CH) shows that what the Micro lacks in speed it makes up for in grip. Roll on next time. Getting all excited about the Micro in F1 at WHO.

Definitely kind of hard to tell what chassis had the upper hand on the night. A Tyco on pole, a Mega G winner and the Micros looked very strong too. Watching the racing from the complex at the start of the lap was very confusing as everything seemed to go through their incredibly quickly. All testament to a really nice track which made for competitive racing across the chassis types.
Thanks peeps for a great night of racing, it was nice to meet u all sorry if I didnt get to talk to everyone but first day nerves and all. I cant wait till the mod class, especially with the order I just placed on lucky bobs, what a wonderful website it is like a aladdins cave of goodies.

Race Report
Our 2013 Formula One season kicked off ten days before Bernie Ecclestone's version. The temperature in Goring was a little cooler than Melbourne, but the atmosphere was red hot.
We welcomed five new championship contenders to the Barn - Rob, Caz, Colleen, Liam and Stephen. Their arrival gives Andy Parker some serious competition in the Rookie of the Year championship.
The track promised something for all the chassis - a long straight for the Mega-Gs and some tighter sections that the Tycos could take almost flat out. Duncan, Dave and Simon had ditched their Tycos for Mega-Gs this year, leaving Tycos for the two Andys, Ollie and the club car runners.
The Micro Scalextric cars looked full tilt round most of the track, apart from turn 6. As Hannah said more than once "How can that happen?" as her car fell off at 0mph. Andrew and Hannah have been joined by Mike McCann in the Micro camp this season.
Rob was the only racer to use a Super-G - enjoying the speed, but struggling on the corners.
After twenty eight fast and furious heats, with mostly Mega-Gs on the grid, we had a Tyco on pole position for the first time since January 2011.
Finals
We also had a G final for the first time in a while, which saw newcomer Caz take a comfortable win over WHO regulars Ollie and Daniel.
The F final was one racer short after Ned felt unwell and headed home with his grand dad. That left Andy Parker with Stephens Lewis and McCann slugging it out. They finished in that order, with Stephen Lewis running Andy close.
Up in the E final, Mike McCann was racing three of our new racers - Rob, Liam and Colleen. Rob has qualified top of the bunch, but Mike monstered the race with his upgraded Micro, scoring the top final score so far. Behind, Liam finished top of the rookies, followed by Rob and Colleen - all three separated by less than a lap.
The D final saw a big winning score - Duncan beating 23 laps in blue lane with his new Mega-G. If only he'd done that in the heats, the A final would have been in reach. Jonah came in next, followed by Hannah and Tyler - Hannah taking third place in the Classic Cup for Tyco and Micro Scalextric cars.
It was all Mega-Gs in the C final and we witnessed a momentous battle between Darren and Simon for the win. Simon just snatched it, with Darren a close second, Gareth third and Josh fourth.
Andrew was the top Micro Scalextric car of the night. Although he had the pace to qualify above Mike Dadson and John, he had a disappointing start to the B final and could not make up the ground on the others. Dave had an incident-free race and just pipped Mike, much to Mike's disappointment. John came in third.
That just left the A final. Having had some lap timing issues during the evening, four volunteers manually counted to double-check the laps for the 'top' final.
It was a cracking final with the track punishing any over-excitement or misjudgements. All of the drivers - Andy, Robin, Clive and Callum - had tricky parts of the race when they thought they were out of contention, but then came back again as others suffered.
At the end of the two minutes, Clive took the win ahead of Robin and Andy - all on the same lap. Callum came in not far behind, a massive performance for a junior racer.
Congratulations to Clive and to Callum for their medal wins. It looks like it will be an exciting F1 season this year. And some racers may well be dropping this month's score...
