Round 10 - Worthing
It was a great weekend at the Heene, what with hosting the final round of the Eahorc season, introducing some more WHO racers to national racing and looking forward to some serious silverware remaining in Sussex.
It would be a tense Sunday for Mike. Although odds-on for both the LMP title and the most prestigious Eahorc Cup, there could be no slip ups. Mike's heart rate would have been sky-high after average Open Wheel heats put him in the B final, with his rival on pole position. Mike won the B final and a fourth place finish would mean a win in the afternoon would seal the Eahorc Cup.
There were strong WHO performances right the way through the field, with Helen, Ash, Karl, Duncan and Simon all beating Eahorc regulars. Alex had a good scrap for last place and his dad John showed he was still on good national form. Of the Eahorc regulars, Gareth was unlucky in his final and Andy took second place for second year running at the Heene, having fancied his chances for a home win. But it was Paul's performance to make the B final on his Eahorc debut that was the stand-out WHO performance of the morning.
Lunchtime saw a few departures, but Ash, Paul and Helen stayed to join Andy for some Nascar fun. Gareth and Karl looked to battling for the Closed Wheel win. But all eyes were on Mike in LMP. Despite strong competition, he kept his cool and took the win, the LMP championship and the Eahorc Cup. What a season he has had!
It was a great trophy presentation for WHO, with the club picking up the Club Challenge for the first time.
Andy took home the Pro-Modified Championship trophy and Mike and Andy will share the Eahorc 'pairs' cup for 2012-13.
Quite a haul.
Irrespective of the silverware, it was an excellent day and an excellent season. Thanks to Simon, Mike and Gareth who helped set up on Saturday, to Simon who looked after the club car / controller bag on Sunday and to Gareth who did a fabulous job on Race Control. It was a day that had WHO Racing stamped all over it
There's much more about the day over on the Eahorc forum - which will include results, a full report, video and pictures.
Next season starts in Yelling on Sunday 8 September, followed by a return to the Heene Centre on Sunday 29 September and a short trip to the HONK track at Chatham on Sunday 27 October.
Let's see if we can defend that Club Challenge title
