I've been looking in the usual places for broken carrera cars, at least those wth broken shells as I want some chassis.

If I was looking for Scalextric it would be fine, fleabay as loads stating, broken windscreen, mirrors, spoiler etc so selling cheap yet this does not seem to be the same for carrera.

Has anyone come across these unicorns, particularly te Nissan gtr, Audi r8 and trans-am firebird?

I use Carrera chassis on scratchbuilds a lot myself. I've never had any luck finding damaged cars (in my experience Carrera's are bulletproof!), but what works for me is to be selective on Ebay...if you buy "used" Carrera and carefully choose cars with desirable bodies with some resale value...you can end up with a fairly inexpensive Carrera chassis overall after reselling the body. That's what I do...just a thought.

That was my plan B, I agree with you about bullet proof as I've had no more damage than a spoiler or mirror which are easily replaced
