.......... in a 24h race with the DAVIC system in the middle of Europe (lets say Salzburg, Austria). The track would be around 35 meters of lane length. 6-lane track.

We are THINKING of setting up such a race for late summer / early fall 2004.

We are trying to verify the intrest in such an event now.

I know that many people will answer but try and think about it seriously: traveling to Salzburg on a Friday, training laps on Friday evening, practice again on Saturday morning, start for 24h in the afternoonof Saturday, race ´til Sunday afternoon and than back home again or stay for another night and go home on a Monday.

I just wanted to show the possible effort you would have to take to consider whether you are still interested or not. I do not want to scare anyone away!!!!!

Thanks for the answers,
Nico

Sounds great and as long as it is late summer early Autum i will be there
Yhough i will need plenty of warning to make sure i can take a long weekend from work. I am working away and only home for weekends till middle summer and i don't think my wife would apprecite me taking a long weekend when i could be with her away.

Hey Wankel and Gareth,
check out the possibility of flying to Salzburg with one of the low cost airlines operating to Salzburg (one out of London Stansted, one out of Birmingham and one out of Southampton).

Just a suggestion to save money and time!!!

If you don't mind a crap racer, I'm always looking for an excuse to jump on the bike and take off for the weekend. That's why slots usually get neglected until winter.

Cheers,

My wife and myself have never been to Europe,so what a great time to come over to see the sights and try the Davic System.
I am wondering if during the slot racing,if there would be any slot racer's wives, interested in showing my wife the sights?

Hi Iceman,
after consulting my "management" I am sure we can offer some sightseeing here in Salzburg for those who are not as much interested in the race as we are.

We are also continuing our planning for the event and I hope that I can announce soon the details. But as I said, at the moment we are still planning, but we are getting along VERY good!!!!

Hope to see you soon,
Nico

Now we are finished with the worst parts of organization, so here is the news I promised to you:

From the 3rd to the 4th of July, 2004 the first 24h race on a digital track will be held near Salzburg, Austria. It is the first digital race in Austria.
The event is organized by the touristical organization Obertrum am See together with a group of enthusiasts from the Grenzlandslot Cup. The event will be held in the Gewerbeschule in Obertrum am See, in the Gym of this school.

We expect 13 Teams with 4-6 drivers per Team.

Teams from: Austria, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, England have already asked for details. In total we expect around 70 slot enthusiats as drivers.

The track is a 6 lane Polistil track, that has a lane length of 70 meters and it shows the Formula 1 track from Spa in scale 1:100. The digital system that we will race with is the DAVIC system.
This is the same track that the 24h of Eupen, Belgium, race is raced on. There was a recent article in the German slot magazine Car On Line about this track.
This track will be buildt up by our belgian slotfriends here in Salzburg. A BIG THANK YOU FOR THAT IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A 24h race is nothing special anymore, but the possibility of racing together with 12 other teams on a 6 lane track is a fascinating experience!!!!!!!

On our homepage you can see the rules and regulations (also in English of coures; we did our best!!!). You can also read the regulations for registration plus you will also find the registration form on this homepage.
There are only 13 teams permitted to participate in this event. It will be first come, first serve!!

More updates and more news to come.

The same article is to be read under Digital here. Sorry for posting the same thread twice, but I thought that there might be some people in here that do not look into Digital too often, so that´s why........

Hope to see you in Salzburg in July,
Nico

HI Nico,

We have one team and a possible second team if there is room for us? Please advise asap. I will have all the details arranged on Thursday evening if that is ok my friend?

Now, how about you guys putting together a 6 man team to race on our Ninco track for The Phoenix 24 Hour Race? We are running this over 24/25 July 2004 and we should just about recovered from your race in time! It would be good too so we can ask many questions about Davic that maybe we cannot at your race. Hope you can make it.

I also mentioned the race to Andy S . He is here somewhere on Sf and lives in Munich. He was racing at Phoenix on Saturday and was very interested in your 24 hour race if you can track him down mate?

Oh, I wouldn't let your colonial ancestry get in the way John!
Seriously, I can appreciate the substantial financial outlay in attending such a meeting. It's bad enough if you're in England like me (family ties and not enough pounds sterling!!)

Hopefully, we'll be able to share the 24 hr experience second hand here at SF all be it via digital pictures and text

Mark.
