only a week ago we were all eagerly awaiting the monday so we could all go and collect our reserved carrera sets oh how we laughed at the expense of argos and their loss was it seams our gain.
but it seams we cannot enjoy the spoils of victory with each other as when anyone mentions ahem "them sets" the topic gets locked i purchsed 5 of these items with the intention of building a carrera layout some people purchased them witha view to make a few quid i dont have a problem with that but censorship over a harmless topic like this seems a little hasty and strong and can only add to the discontent.
this is a forum for discussing all things slot related and these items fall under that catagory so lets openly discuss like adults i am new to this forum i came here because the other forum i frequented was seamingly over moderated and seamingly biased so i came here on a recommendation i only hope i havent brought this nasty virus with me

lets openly talk about these things or is big brother going to spoil the fun

Difflock doesn't have a big brother. Difflock is an only child!
To bring a more peaceful, joyful and genteel post regarding "them sets"....if it wasn't for "them sets" I would not have acquired a load of Polistil track (similar to Carrera, plenty wider than Sport) which will enable me to have a layout in my attic, hopefully this year.

Interestingly, has anyone found out whether or not Argos made a complete pricing cock up or was it a genuine cutting of losses sale? Would they tell us if we asked them?

Not wanting to get this topic locked I will not mention my opinion on the sale of the Carrera sets or what I think of the moderators actions locking some of the topics, my thoughts on those two subjects are irrelevent to my reason for posting now :

I have been here for a few months and it is a great resource for slot fans and over the last few nights you can feel the tension and blood pressures rise, before that leads to serious trouble could we get back to the usual subjects and not spoil this forum with upset members and arguments. This should be a stress free area for everyone.

That's just my 2p worth.

This forum is a great place for slot enthusiasts. Why everyone gets so upset or involved in how it is run boggles me. No forum (or any institution) can be run to please everyone all of the time, so you and I may get miffed at some events. Live with it! The people running it are putting their time, enthusiasm and money into providing a great facility and environment for us all to share knowledge. No one ever claimed it was the utopian socialist/anarchic/democratic or whatever your particular structured state. Its here, it is what it is, and its good.

You missed the point, I am "living with it"
Just trying to get everyone living with it without the grief.

Or would you prefer more topic locking etc.?

Well, on the basis that I only bought two sets which isn't enough track for me, I'm quite glad some other members have picked extra up and are willing to sell it.

As long as they're not trying to make a ridiculous markup then I don't mind, I just want some more frikkin' track

If anyone has a problem with a thread being locked, or if you have a problem with how the board is run, please bring it up with me.

Please read the rules/guidelines.

We have been in agreement since the conception of the forum that we are not having public debates on the running of the forum.

Gentlemen etc

Nuro has put it shortly and sweetly above.
Swissracer had already posted the official Admin position on what is a difficult area.
Here it is, for better or for worse:

Swiss Statement

Unfortunately, as we all know, no single statement can please all of the people all of the time.
So now my supporting position:

It is practically impossible, to draw absolute, unequivocal lines that will cover all possible circumstances and we are genuinely sorry that, occasionally, some people will disagree with our position and that is quite natural.

However, let me state absolutely clearly that we will not permit uncontrolled public debate on how the forum is managed or on Admin/moderation decisions and such topics WILL be closed and/or deleted on the straightforward basis of being OFF TOPIC with regard to slot cars.

Constructive suggestions or complaints may be addressed PRIVATELY to Admin or a moderator, leaving the Forum Boards free and clear for their function, which is to discuss slot cars and related subjects, rather than be hijacked for 'political debate'.
Yes, of course there can be overlap and, as mentioned, it's sometimes very hard to know where to draw a clear line. But, for better or for worse, such difficult decisions are, of absolute necessity an Admin function and that must be accepted.
So let's get back to the hobby that brings us all here and enjoy it.

I also meant to infer in my post that the ONLY reason I locked the two threads on the Carrera sets was NOT to prevent discussion of the sets, their content or the great deal they were.
It was simply that both of these posts were becoming pointless arguments over an issue that is totally personal in outlook, non contributing and potentially damaging in that they become heated and personal, retaliation wise.

Please! feel free to talk about the sets and their contents but do we really need endless debate on the rights and wrongs of reselling them? I don't believe so.

I'd like to ask one question.

If someone bought a set from Argos at the £29.99 price instead of the cheaper £17.99 price, then should they sell one car (a third of the set (car, car, track)) for £10? I think this seems immensly fair as all they are doing is selling the cars at cost, to people who do not want/cannot afford the whole set.

Would like a response.

It does make sense.

I think it has been said elsewhere - sell what you like for what you can, but if in doubt about if it is a private sale to fellow interested memebrs or bulk trading then PM or e-mail the Mods before posting. That way you avoid starting an arguement about how the forum is run and so avoid getting a thread pulled.
