I once heard a descriptive breakdown of the word "expert" bear in mind when spoken, the spelling is moot.....

it went somthing like this.....

an "ex" is a has been,

and a "spurt", is a drip, under pressure

An ex, i.e. former, drip would be a beautiful, free formed teardrop. Perfectly shaped and passing through the air with the minimum of disruption.

Right up to the point it smashes into the floor. Still, even momentary perfection is a state to be wished for.
