Bearing in mind that there is a long history of Road circuits in the U.S. such as Watkins Glen and Leguna Seca amongst others, i was wondering why OVALS seem to be so common, and so popular, in the U.S. Racing...
Its not like there is not much space other there?
and you don't see any more of the track when attending a race. I went to the UK champ car race at Rockingham a few years ago, and you could only see the few hundred metres of track right in front of you.
I do enjoy, a little, watching IRL and Nascar (Busch) on UK's terrestrial TV, and you do get over-taking, and some impressive crashes (which are mostly 'safe'), but it does seem a little one-dimensional.
Now, i am not saying that F1 is better, and i hope this doesn't turn into a nationalistic insult fest, i am just interested to hear why people, especially those from over the Pond, think that OVAL racing is so big in comparison to road courses.
