Hi everyone,

I would like to see other members workshop/area/bench. The place where all your "magic" happens.

I couldn't really post it anywhere else as this covers a lot of stuff not just cars, but 1:32 cars are the most general scale of cars as far a I know so it will probably get most exposure and therefore good references here.

I think it will be quite interesting to see what tools etc we all use to service, upgrade, paint and modify our little cars.

Seeing that I'm the one asking for this it's only fair that I post my setup as well:

I use my area mostly for chipping, tuning and adding lights as I have not moved over to modifications and re-livery's yet. Neither have I really gone into modifying trackpieces.
I recently bought the "magnifying bench light" and it works a charm. Also have a OKI fume extraction system on it's away as there is too little ventilation in this room and I don't react too well to solder smoke.

IKEA computer table is my main working area.

I'm going to provide a detailed list of tools and bits I use o anyone ne an see what they need to buy, unlike me who struggled through buying what I needed when I gt frustrated with the wron tools I.e. decent soldering station, gauge wire strippers etc.

Not a bad workbench!

Here's mine - Casting couch...err, bench - this is in the garage shop. I'm blessed to have a 10x10' room attached and heated!

My workbench (yes, I'm the boy living in the cupboard under the stairs - I wanted to maximize space for the track!): No, the bench is not warped, I'm getting some weird fish-eye effect in the pictures.

Yes, the boxed in pole is in the way, but since I'm the only one working there, it hasn't bothered me at all.

I use the tall cabinet on the left to hold all of my cast cars and parts such as the glass, etc. as I make them.

The hose under the bench is coming through the wall - I have a shop vac on the other side of the wall in the storage area that is hooked to a switched outlet on the bench and I can turn it on when needed - such as when using the Dremel or just cleaning up the bench. The PC is networked so I can surf, research cars, and watch/listen to music, DVDs or shows on the internet while working.

I see we also share the same tyre truer...I just have my laptop on a laptop table that I move around the house and when I'm working on my cars I plug it into my screen for some surfing, entertainment and re-programming of digital chips....

Not a geeky thing at all guys. I'd just have to clean down my workbench to be able to show it. At the moment it looks like a bomb hit it. Haven't been near the toy room in a week. Bench is currently covered in assorted scenery stuff and leftover bits from trying to put a proxy car together. It looks like a disaster area.

I tend to proof of the chaos theory.

This is a fun thread, let me do my part to keep it rolling. Btw, really like your track, dreinecke...reminds me of Luf Linkert's Targa Florio's. It's also what I had in mind for my own track before my wife convinced me to shrink it quite a bit *grin* Here's my low tech "magic" bench and track area.

@John: I like that your workbench has a nice "cut" into it so you're nearly surrounded by all your stuff. BTW is that Pratt & Whitney Radial engine on your bookstand? Wish I had that kind of space! Lovely track and scenery as well!

So far Glue Guns and Dremels seems to be the common dominator.

I have to use the kitchen table so all is put away after use, it really keeps things tidy.(or er indoors plays havoc)

Yup. Definitely.

Tidy and creative don't sit well together to me. My filing system tends to be biblical, ie) Seek and ye shall find. I'd like to say it gets tidied up at the end of each project, but it doesn't. It gets tidied up just before the beginning of the next project. Biggest problem for me is that a section of my bench is the 'pit' area for Friday night beer and laps. So I get whinged at on a weekly basis.

His Lordship is quite the opposite to me. But then, he's a tradesman. His area, which somehow got to be larger than mine, is always neat and tidy. But he doesn't do more than tweak cars. I have scenery, car tuning, kit building and all sorts happening at the same time. Like I said before, I am chaos theory personified.

I remember one of the older threads on this topic....a good one in my opinion.

One of the tidiest and most impressive shown was Edo's space and one of the most messed up was BWA's.

I reckon if you havent made a mess then you haven't made anything.

Good eye, Keeto...that's actually a prototype for a Raven Drone motor, I made the exterior appear like a Wasp for nostalgia. *grin*

Hi there all..

Here is my work area.. "A fold up table".. although it is never down...

Unfortunately I dont have a seperate room for my workarea.
Its located in my Second Bedroom come Study, which is also my Workshop, Computer room, Display area and Storage area, etc..
I try and keep it as tidy as possible, although when you are working on quite a few Builds/Conversions at a time , its very hard to do.

This definitely falls under the category of bomb hit, and I tidied up before taking the pic&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..

My work bench in the loft, note recycling of Ninco cases, and other storage mediums utilised skyhooks heading towards the ceiling.

On the bench is the Dyno, tyre sander and ultrasonic motor cleaner, not in picture is the pyramid for hotting up motors powered by the fusion reactor based on an old microwave oven unit and the controlling PC (Club mythology) .

Looking at the bench cleanness of some of the previous posts, my bench top is a liberal mix of drill craters, resin, hot melt glue dobs, solder splashes and some unidentifiable blobs, possibly curry.

Around the ceiling are various inspirational posters, and the club racing itinerary.
Currently in production on the bench is the latest 'Club' controller, which I am just completing for a fellow club member and out of shot but shown below is the SIOOB Mazda in preparation for the November GT Raceways meeting.

(SI kit airbrushed in bright yellow with tearproof rear spoiler otherwise stock).

Here is the test track (Carrera, to the left in the bench pic) complete with Dale Farm scenery, which runs out into the eaves of the roof at each end, and is a complete pig to get a decent pic of due to the location.
