At the risk of sidelining this excellent thread into "essential slot tools", it is true that your basic Dremel is a must-have, every bit as much as an X-acto knife IMO. Now to sequeway back, I'm noticing how many "hi-tech" builders we have....I really like that temperature controlled heating iron I saw a page or two back. Also, enjoying what a small world it is...Wraith and I share a printer, and I see that Abie and I use the same epoxy. Great thread!

I'm sure I'm like many people and would love a lathe, not sure what I would do with it.

Custom alloy wheels.

Masters for casting bespoke tyres for custom alloy wheels.

Not much else really but I would love one to play with and make custom moon disks and outrageously large low profile rear tyres for my rat rod project.

You cold use a lathe for:

- Accurate masters for casting rubber wheels
- Normal bearings
- Special asymmetric bearings
- Inserts
- Special cut to lengt washers
- Splitting rubber tyres accurately
- Making of special tuning screws
- Rims were mentioned
- Polishing of any round parts
- Making of headlights
- Making of special tools
- Modifying of existing tools
- Etc...

Back to the topic at hand:

Standard cabinet from IKEA, I went vertical instead of horizontal with my work area. I had a table that took up quite a bit of room originally. With this cabinet, I hang tools on either side, have a workspace, and lots of storage.
