Most motor racing folk look back to their favourite eras from time to time because we have brains that store memories. Like all 'disciplines' motor sport, in all its forms, has gone through highs and lows, but even during troughs, we can often reflect on something that has been stored in our minds with affection.

As usual your views and images will always be of great interest. And thanks.

A few memory joggers below.

Thanks for you terrific pic, Quark. It makes me want to watch Steve McQueen's film of '70 again, which I might well do again later. We have trough guests this evening, so a little background 917 music might help the 'conversation' along. Yep, I feel another Force 10 on the way.

A great picture of a classic era thanks, but where's #23 and the unraced #24 got to.
Funny you should ask. From what I know, which isn't much, The Solex building was #K and Pits 36-40 are as pictured. #3, #25, #22,#21 and #20. The group of Pit garages just to the North, which would be section #G are numbered 31-35. Those pits contained, 908/2 #27, 917K #18, 917K #24 (qualified but was withdrawn), 917K #23, and Pit garage #35 was vacant. Those 5 garages aren't built yet. So they aren't in the picture

Here is the Starting Grid in order, accurate to 11 places.

I've found the allocation of pits changed frequently between qually and the race, can get confusing looking at old photographs.
Looking at test weekend photographs is easier to spot usually, as the cars tended to run different race numbers and simpler liveries.
Another superb picture, Quark. An excellent collection of cars. Thank you.
Another pic I found of the 2F I found 'smorn, and one that shows the car's beautiful styling especially well in my view.

Slab sided it may be, but the 2F still looks very aerodynamic.

One of the few cars that you can describe just by using its number, the manufacturer/builder isn't required.

Like a 917............ ;)

What a brilliant idea!

Start a new thread.

I'll contribute.

One of my favourite GP pics of all time. 'Twas from an era before we needed wellies to wade through BS in the paddock.

Hey guys there's some rain on the track. Don't worry it's only it's only five or six inches. I wonder what todays driver would make of that.

Fast forward one year

Amazing rain shots! I think that’s the most standing water I’ve ever seen on a race track and they still kept going.

The commentator’s description of the hairpin as “260 degrees” told us something about him rather than the track.

Thanks for posting these.

Of course, Henk. You're absolutely right, but even during old age codger stage, I continue to look forward to the new cars, as I know you also do. Could be a a golden season ahead so, let's go forward with optimism and hope and... a large dollop of the good stuff without my recalcitrant uncle Bonkers. A votre sante, Henk.

Yes Trisha, I can hardly wait for the 24-hours of Le Mans this year :)
It is many many moons ago when brands like Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Peugeot and other main manufactures used to compete there.
Sebring already lifted a tip of the curtain but I’m sure when they arrive on Le Mans they will even go faster.
