I'm pleased to say I met Norman Dewis a couple of times, a few times for work in the 60s, and once after we'd both retired in 2010.

When I greeted him at the 2010 meeting he said 'I know you lad, don't I?' (I was 68 at the time.....) When I reminded him where we'd met (it was at the MIRA test site) he recalled exactly the tests we were doing! It was concerned with the 4 cam V12 they had installed in a Mk X of all things.

A wonderful bloke.

Indeed....but the $3 one is inadequate even for my low standards.....and $95 just for the file is right out. Maybe I just have to work on the basic one......

Fagioli won in a W25 Mercedes at an average speed of almost 100mph.

Here's a picture that's made me laugh for years because it rather lends itself to a caption competition.

Rudi Caracciola spun the Merc into a wall on the opening lap of the 1939 French GP at Gueux, and damaged the petrol tank, spilling fuel onto the road surface.

"Just popping into the post office for a stamp. I'll catch up later."

Interesting to speculate what might have happened had Bruce sadly not succumbed at Goodwood.
Mclaren were looking into producing road cars at the time, how would that have developed, could Bruce have got an engine programme together to rival the Porsche turbo, if there was a better head to head battle would the Can am glory years have lasted a little longer.
If still involved in Can am would Porsche have still produced group 5 and group 6 cars.
