Most motor racing folk look back to their favourite eras from time to time because we have brains that store memories. Like all 'disciplines' motor sport, in all its forms, has gone through highs and lows, but even during troughs, we can often reflect on something that has been stored in our minds with affection.

As usual your views and images will always be of great interest. And thanks.

A few memory joggers below.

Wow! Another abfab pic. DSG! Thanks, Mark. A hero of mine without doubt. If he had faults, let the world try and find 'em, eh?

Those shoes! I agree. We all had them in the 1960s. Can't recall who made them, but someone will remember. Ah! Memories, eh!

We were young, foolish and... oh well. And now? Old and just as stupid... For which we can all be most grateful.

Dan Gurney and Phil Hill? Both a breath of fresh... by any standards. Intelligence with endless humility. Rare qualities indeed.

It’s the landing I’d worry about - note the shift lever between airborne Dan and the driver’s seat.
And for touring there were driving moccasins with rubber nibs on the soles.

An excellent nostalgic film on the 300SLR. Thanks. Lucky those cops didn't pull him in for having no front number plate though.

It looked like John Watson driving.

I always loved the sound of straight 8's. V8's are wonderful but we hear them all the time now. No one will ever build a new (car) straight 8 again for a lot of technical reasons. A long distant memory was of a British dragster at one of the very first Santa Pod meetings which was powered by an alcohol burning straight 8 Buick. It sounded terrific, but the engine would have been more suitable as a boat anchor.

Who noticed the sticker on the police motorcycle?

"Who do you think you are Stirling Moss?"

Just perfect. 😄 🙂

I agree about straight-8s, Gripping. A wonderful racket, particularly from pre War French machinery. Tearing calico again.
Think BP had an advert, we've always been pleased to invest in Stirling.
