Most motor racing folk look back to their favourite eras from time to time because we have brains that store memories. Like all 'disciplines' motor sport, in all its forms, has gone through highs and lows, but even during troughs, we can often reflect on something that has been stored in our minds with affection.

As usual your views and images will always be of great interest. And thanks.

A few memory joggers below.

The current Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb record currently stands at 22.37secs. Here's Mrs Olive Stewart-Menzies during a meeting in 1924 driving a GP Peugeot on the brink of recording a 66secs' ascent.

Make up your own minds about the proximity of spectators to the 'action'.

Another esteemed F1 driver also had a bad experience with tin-tops. Nigel Mansell and Donington Park spring to mind.

It's best to stay away from the rough end of the playground.
Gripping

Bang on. I recall 'our Nige' at Donington. Banged into the barriers and blamed Tiff. And now? Our Nige? Well, who cares? Another rebel, little clue.

Our Nige? I wasn't fooled then, either.
Superstars coming into a lesser formula are always going to be an easy physical target, also they will be verbally targeted.
Anyone remember Clelands rant at Soper, after handbags and door handle rubbings at Silverstone in the British stock car Championship, the result of which went BMWs way.
I do like the trim and tidy M6.

Sure do! "The man's an animal !"

I was inclined to agree too. It was many years ago though and now it's nice to see Steve Soper back racing historics after a nasty period of ill health. He drives a mean Lotus Cortina.
I also recall that Cleland incident. He was a noisy little fellah.
All those Silverstone antics made great viewing, thought Murray was about to explode.

The BBC does tend to polarise opinion ,which is fair enough we are a broad church, but their edited coverage of both F1 many moons ago and the days of btcc in the eighties and nineties has got those series to their popularity today.

The Elford/Athens 917 (011) at Daytona, where it failed to finish, 52 years ago. The same car was painted red for the Targo Florio, but suffered demolition when the mechanic driving it had an altercation with a lorry.

An excellent spectator platform that would not receive approbation from 'Elfs today.

If you took today's stars back to classic Silverstone, the full sized Spa, Monza pre chicanes, Clermont ferrand etc, they'd probably love the track and the challenge, maybe not so the safety aspect.
