Most motor racing folk look back to their favourite eras from time to time because we have brains that store memories. Like all 'disciplines' motor sport, in all its forms, has gone through highs and lows, but even during troughs, we can often reflect on something that has been stored in our minds with affection.

As usual your views and images will always be of great interest. And thanks.

A few memory joggers below.

On this day in 1966, I was at VSCC, Silverstone where, when the meeting had finished, the commentator, John Willis, said something along the lines of: "I can't imagine that anyone's interested but the England soccer team has won something known as the World Cup."

A huge cheer echoed around Northamptonshire.

Anyone else remember Silverstone when it looked like a racing circuit?
Unfortunately only from films but I do have these from Corgi

You must, Keith. Absolutely beautiful buildings and artwork. I don't recall those from Corgi, possibly because they didn't make it as far as Herefordshire. Few useful things did in those days. Much the same today, too, of course.

Greatly looking forward to your new layout project, and accompanying videos, of course.
Beardy, That is an interesting version of the BRDC timekeeper's box and pre-dates the photo in Trisha's post. You can see in the photo that the panels below the ground floor windows have been knocked out so that competitors and crews could walk straight in to see the practice times and race results which were pinned up on the walls. I remember it well.

The old timber bar was close by, and when racing was finished you could drive in and out of the paddock by crossing the track at Woodcote Corner and going close by the bottom of the box, just to the right as viewed on the photo. On one occasion the driver I was crewing with and myself had been in the bar for a couple of pints with his arch rival and we all left together. I often drove the tow car back home but on this occasion John jumped into the driving seat and headed to the exit followed by his rival Hugh. As we came to Woodcote John turned right, on to the circuit, followed by Hugh. It was obvious to me that this was likely to end in disaster as both tow cars with trailers and their precious cargos accelerated towards Copse.
After a hairy side by side rounding of the corner common sense prevailed luckily and a more sedate tour of the track ensued. Racing was finally over for the day.

In my experience the 'real' racing always started after a Silverstone meeting. Silverstone, Banbury, Shipston-on-Stour, Evesham, Pershore, Ledbury and awf back to the 'ills. It rarely took more than two hours years ago. Now?

A total waste of bl**dy time, petrol and life.

The Corgi kits were release to go with their GP cars and also included in their racing playset. The building would be bases on how it was in the early 60's or even possibly late 50's, same sort of time period as the Scalextric Goodwood buildings.

Thanks again, Keith. Wonderful stuff. Here's my Ecosse Transporter which, like me, has all the important bits broken awf.

That right hand rear wheel doesn't look all that strongly attached either!

You know you’re having a bad day when you’re passed by your own wheel. Almost as bad as when you’re passed by your trailer.

Old Sunbeam Rapier in the farmyard where someone was fixing something. Fire Engine blares by. (EDIT: Clanged by) "Wonder, where it's going?", says someone. We all jump in the Rapier and take chase. After about a mile someone asks. "Whose wheel is that?" as it sailed by. A microsecond later with a thud and a grinding sound we found out. Circa 1968-ish.
