1/43rd growing - time to start a club in the UK?

SCX has announced it is jumping on the 1/43rd scale bandwagon. after-market and cottage industry chassis and parts are appearing everywhere.
So, do we have enough people and enough interest to start a 1/43rd scale club or maybe a 143/HO combined club. Or do we just wait for 1/32nd clubs to get on board?

I wish you luck but I can't see that there will be much need for a 1/43rd scale club. If you've got somewhere big enough for a club there is so much more variety available in 1/32nd and 1/24th. Most existing clubs racing these scales would like more members.

There has been a number of attempts to launch 1/43rd going back to SRM and Champion in the 60's. They were nice looking cars in their day but modern stuff appears toylike. I can see the appeal for home racers where space is limited and who knows maybe competition will force Artin and Carrera to raise their game in the same way that Scaley had to when Ninco then Fly came along.

Personally I am fortunate in that I have space for a permanent track and I already race 1/32 and 1/24 at 2 different clubs plus open retro meetings. That's enough for me.

I assume SCX are launch 1/43 with some reason to belive there is a market for it so I will be curiouos to hear from them what that is. It could, for example, be simply a low cost toy designed to offer buyers someting at a lower cost than a big 1/32 set.

That said, if they could get Minichapms models to be slot cars I would be a big customer.

I agree. And they need to be told that.

With HO racing being pretty cheap I think it would be accurate to say I spend far more on my other hobby, collecting 1/43rd BMW diecasts, and every time I buy one I think ''jeez, that would make a killer slot car''

Corgi, Quarzo and I forget the brand of the Bimmer and Shelby Series 1. All 1:43 die-casts grafted onto Artin chassis. I run them on Carerra 1:24 track with the standard controllers and power supply, very smooth and tail-happy.

Hopefully SCX's 1:43 cars will run on their existing track, not just on a new line of 43 track - both Carerra Go! and Artin struggle to run on the club Ninco as their guidepins are two wide for the track joints.

QUOTE (dacheese @ 6 Mar 2007, 09:41) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I've never really looked at 1/43 before...what brands are available and where do you get them from in the UK? Particularly looking at that 206 that was in the winning photo competition shot.

The two main brands for 1/43 are Artin and Carrera. Carrera 1/43 stuff is called "Carrera Go!!!". Any UK retailer that carries Artin and Carrera can get you the stuff. I believe that Monarch lines is the UK Artin distributor.

This might be a bit of self promotion here but a decent starting point for 1/43 might be my web site at : http://homepage.mac.com/pmarchand/newindex.htm
