My HO club has a class for Aurora Magnatraction and Johnny Lightning/Auto World X-Traction cars with modern Whelen Modified type bodies. I had gotten a lot of X-Tractions as race prizes, so those are what I have been running in that class. The X-Tractions do not have as many issues that need correcting as the Thunderjet 500 T-Jet types do. Some X-Tractions are fine out of the box, others may need some work. I understand that not everyone likes to tinker with their cars, but you might take a look at this article:
Hi @RichD , there is a problem that your doc does not mention. Shoe 👠 binding at the hinge point. The shoe on the right is bound up.

On the shoe that is bining you need to turn the hanger a little. Also, did you notice that the other end is not centered under the brush? Different parts of the same problem - crooked hanger. I've fixed some of mine by using a small flat blade screwdriver in the shoe slot. Insert screwdriver and gently turn to align the finger under the brush and the bind in the shoe will be gone as well. That is in addition to removing the extra bend in the shoe as you've done. I've never seen that extra bend before...

Good point about the crooked hinge hanger plate.

Perhaps @RichD could add these tips to his doc?

Both AFX and AW have their quality issues, and both have great, practiced, customer service.
The main flaw I find with AW cars is more theoretical than quality. AW tries to make an older design run as fast as a modern slot car. It's the gearing I have an issue with, not the quality, they are just geared too fast. I saw somewhere a guy was putting 9 tooth pinions in the AW tjet chassis and they were a completely different car, major improvement.

No major manufacturer has made straight wheels since the HPX2 came out and the MegaG went out of production.

AFX has honored warrantee on cars I've bought from anywhere, including Ebay sellers. Never asked for any proof of purchase information either. I always provide photos and detailed description about the problem. They have sent me replacement rear axle assemblies and even an entire chassis to correct problems.

I bought a Pit Kit on big biddum a while back, and the crown gear was too crooked to run. I sent an email to AW customer support to explain the issue. After a couple of emails and pictures to document the issue, they sent me an entire replacement chassis. Can't beat that.

[/rant] Sadly, good customer service, I fear is going by the wayside. No matter the product or service, it seems tier one is now some AI bot that is the opposite of helpful. I can see why, the bottom line is to increase profit margins for any business. AI provides a means to save money, and put some folks out of work. Sooner or later someone has to conclude the artificial intelligence lacks intelligence. [/end rant]

On the bright side, as AI “learns” from the info it collects, there is a very good chance that the first series of Terminator cyborgs will actually look like Arnold Schwarzenegger!

I don’t know about you, but I’d get a big kick out of that.

Watch this vídeo. The guy first puts a Viper on the dyno, the chassis is very fast and yet it is silky smooth, doesn't move at all. Then he puts an AW 4-Gear and that one doesn't even stay put, just bounces all around. I bet those tires or hubs are not round or the axle is not straight. And it need a good lube, it squeals very badly.

I think that might be the wrong vid. That one is kind of sad. 😞
