Hi

I have the 6 unit 1.2PB and the c7004 is hard to get hold of. I have been looking around the house for compatible 12v charger to use in the second power slot of the PB1.2. I found two candidates. one is the power supply from a high capacity energizer recharger which is 2.5a 12v; (link below). Perhaps a bit underpowered? The second is a dedicated power supply for a muchmore/schumacher style radio control charger rated at 12v 10a. Its currently got 4mm bannana connectors so I'd have to make a lead up. I cannot find the exact model but its similar to those linked in the bottom 3x

However is there any reason these should not to tried? Also which input do I plug into?

Appreciate your advice!

I would not use the 2.5 Amp unit or plug it up with the C7004. it's never a good idea to mix PSU's.

I would say the 10 Amp unit is the best bet. I would be happier if I could find a full spec, but as it's switched mode I assume it's regulated? If you have a multimeter put it across the terminals and check that the off load voltage is 12 to 13 Volts.

You will need to make up a cable so that the single supply is plugged into both P1 & P2. The Powerbase detects this and increases the current that can be drawn.

However remember the 1.2 has a relatively frail output stage, which is easily damaged. Having a greater current available does not necessarily make things worse, as a hard short without a volt drop on the PSU will cause the Powerbase to overload quickly. However a partial short with more amps available can cause the mosfets to cook. That said you are probably in no more danger than with 2 x C7004.

Remember if the worst does happen, or even if not, you can always upgrade a 1.2 Powerbase to PB-Pro + S-H Power, which replaces the output stage with one that is virtually indestructable.

If you were to update your profile, I'd know whether or not to offer you a C7004 power supply so you could have two. But from the looks of the links you provided, I'm guessing you are not in the U.S. and it would not work.

Stressor, IMHO, you're best off budgeting for the PB-Pro and Simple-H (S-H) mods and never having to worry about it again. Well, that and a good regulated Power supply. I've done my research, and put in my down payment for the upgrades just yesterday. I can't wait to run 6 cars (with friends, or with pacers
