Digital 132 - inserting a chip into digital ready Carrera slot car

G'day

The Carrera websites now include a 'poster' (PDF file) with previously announced information on Digital 132, but including a picture of a digital chip being inserted into what I presume is a digital ready 2007 Carrera Evolution slot car (use 100% sized view for a good look).

I'm interested to know what people can conclude from this, if anything, in terms of chipping non-Carrera slot cars. Obviously, the 'plugs' would need to be taken off the ends of the wires (unless, in the case of Scalextric, the Carrera chip by some miracle actually matched and worked with the Scalextric digital ready plug cars), but otherwise it should just be a case of soldering the wires to the relevant bits???

Cheers,
Brad

Brad I think the only conclusion you can come to is that the board looks big. Because of that it will limit the range of other makes that can be easilly chipped. As you say the plugs will probably need some surgery and the wires will need splicing to the correct points. However half the wires are for lights.

The only other item that could be a problem is the car Ident LED. It will be mounted on the PCB but will need to be at the correct point in order to be seen by the track sensor, this will limit where the board id positioned in the car. It may in some cases be necessary to mount it on wires.

I seem to remember seeing a Digital 132 F1 car but no mention as the whether the F1 chip would be released as an upgrade part.

The board looks at least twice the size of the Scalextric Plug module.

They are making a very small chip that I have seen . If you own one of the hot rods you will see that it needs a very small chip .
I would suspect that you could use the hot rod chip in even the smallest of places of cars .I have a couple of 1/24 and 1/32 hot rods that I got a deal on .I have done a lot of convertions using the regular pro x chip, but to fit a chip in a 1/32 hot rod the chip will have to be microscopic compared to other cars .I suspect you should have no problem fitting a chip in the smallest of cars using the hot rod chip . I have 65 digital 132 chips on order including 15 hot rod chips .Although it will be some time before I see them ,I did order from a race center for carrera and they will get the first shipments .I weas told early august we shall see !!!!!! One more thing to consider when looking at those photos is the car it is installed in is a 1/24 model, looks like the ferrari 575. If the chip takes up that much space in a 1/24 car, you'll sure have a tough time fitting it in a 1/32 car which is not specifically designed for the chip. Can't quite figure why Carrera keeps tripping over their own feet?

Just took another look at the photos again, and it appears they will have versions for both 1/32 and 1/24. Hopefully the 1/32 is much smaller

The chip in that photo is the 1/24 chip[ . That chip is the same size as the new 1/24 cars not 1/32 .
Their are 3 chips that will be available ,check the usa site they show 3 chips .You can order 3 diffrent ones .The 1/24 is the biggest and will not fit in a 1/32 . Then there are 2 1/32 chips both plug and play for carrera and you could just clip the ends to retrofit .Like I said the regular 1/32 chip is about the same size as the current chip in a pro x .The hot rod chip is very small.
I do not think they stepped on there toes I think this time they might have it right !!!3 diffrent chips medium small and micro !!!!!! JEFF
