We have been invited to a Hornby Hobbies 'Meet the Team' event in early June where we will be given a presentation on Hornby Hobbies company structure, how the business is organised, the Teams behind the brands, marketing plans and then a Q&A session.

We believe the idea is for Hornby (and the new CEO) to hear directly from us what we want from Hornby (Scalextric), changes, improvements, product ideas, things that work and things that don't. The event is not just for the Scalextric brand, but all Hornby brands.

Gareth Jex and possible one other mod will attend the event on behalf of Slotforum and will try to ask as many of your questions as possible. He will (of course) take pics and report back any interesting news from the event.

So now is your chance to post questions.

We can't guarantee to ask them all and sadly can't promise to obtain answers to all, but we will do our best.

No doubt this thread could dive off into many subjects of Scalextric and feel free to start any specific topics in other more specific areas on Slotoforum (digital for example), but can we ask that you restrict your selves to one posted question per member on this thread/topic to try and give everyone an opportunity. We will try to group similar questions together to save time on the day, but even if you have the same question as someone else has already posted - add it - this will help us to gauge the hot topics.

We don't believe the event is aimed at the business side of Hornby so we will not ask trade related questions.

Good initiative. To start the ball rolling then, an old chestnut:

"We haven't seen any new digital track pieces for a long long time. Are we likely to see any in the near future like, for instance, a racing-line lane changer (please), especially as the curved lane changer appears to have been discontinued?".

This has been mentioned many times before including, I think, on Ian B's visit some years ago, and got the same old "bean counters rule!" response.

Cheers,
Chris

With the change in the real V8 super cars to a common chassis is it possible to do a redesign on the model versions to achieve the same? This would allow some parity between the Ford and Holden (and any future Nissan, Merc or Volvo to be produced). The Ford car of the pairing got a full redisgn and upgrade and as such is the weapon of choice for racing. The Holden is still using the old model and is difficult work even for the top tuners.

I would also beg for a Ford Falcon Phase 3 GTHO.

Agree with Chris99 about the CLC.

..and..
1) Smart Lane changers (normal/Anti collision/Auto-change, selectable via switches) with built-in "backup" power supply.
2) New Half Straight border (without barrier) that fits the straights before/after a 180° R1 curve.

Following on from Sean's question;

What is the purpose of the Scalextric Club? It's free to join, which means it's not exclusive in any way and consequently its "exclusive club models" aren't. Is the club's real purpose, supported by the monthly 10% discount code emailed to Scalextric's newsletter subscribers plus free shipping on purchases over ÂŁ30, an effort to drive customers away from its dealer network and toward direct purchases at scalextric.com?

+1 for chris99's digi-pieces question. The racing line would be a no-brainer, and adding smarter electronics might not be a bad idea either. But that's not really a question, so perhaps it would be better phrased as:

"With aftermarket support for SSD at an all time high, why are Scalextric systematically destroying the range ? We have lost the saloon chips and CLC's (despite the mod to make them analogue friendly being so simple a cackhanded monkey could perform it (and I have (twice))), and there still seems to be a big question mark over the future of the APB with the upcoming RMS/ARC Pro. SSD is a brilliant product, so why aren't they leveraging it more ?"

Let me put that in Margate speak: Give us more friggin track!

+1 for Montoya's comment, -1 for chris99 question. He already answered it himself twice and Hornby isn't a charitable foundation ... yet.
Also, this question was asked many times in the recent Scalextric survey, so they are well aware of the interests of us big boys, but in the end, IMHO, they will only do it if they can make loadsa money from it.

From a personal point of view I'd like to raise the question about Scalextric entering the 1/43 scale part of the market. I see the potential of getting into the scale. The majority of the 'hard work' has been done with the Corgi range only a decent chassis would be needed. Scale bodies, scale wheels with a guide flag as opposed to a pin and, I believe, they'd be on to a sure fire hit

Guys - this is an approach by Hornby - not us to them. They want to hear from the enthusiast. As with any corporate - who knows whether it will give the results we need.

In terms of can of worms - please keep the thread on track (it has been great so far) - positive input is welcome.
