How do you store/display your cars?

I'm looking to build a shelving system to store/display around 50 cars - At the moment I'm thinking of using old track straights as removeable shelves & storing 2 or 3 cars on each shelf - I don't think I have room to store this many cars in their display cases. I know many of you have literally hundreds of cars - I'd be really interested to see what solutions people have come up with to store/display cars?

Just to give you an idea, it's for about 120 cars (12 in a row - depending on the lentgh of the car, 10 rows). Done by a friend of mine - a carpenter, coated by my father in two colours grey in the back like the roller blind - opened in this picture and red. I like it allot because I can take the cars without moving each from it's box... Not cheap but worth it

I designed my own cabinet with glass doors with the components supplied by a big Swedish furniture company (yes, starts with I and ands with A and has four letters).
They also have some nice lights to illuminate all cars. For that reason I do not use track to park the cars: this would prevent the light from going through the glass shelves to the level lower.

We store the cars that we are racing at the moment in foam-lined carrying cases of our own design, the other 80-90 cars are stored in a glass-front case that has shelves just deep enough for the cars to set with the bottom shelf taller so that we can store Super Trucks. Wish we had put lights in it! Maybe we can add them later.

I live in a small apartment so all my cars get stored in my home-made slot car cases:

The case is a cheapo CDN$20 attache from my local WalMart. The guts of it are made from foamcore purchased at an art supply store, and Ecofoam carpet underpad from my local Home Depot. Everything is cut to size and hot glued together.

Each case takes about an hour or so of my time to build and holds 32 cars. The case stores under my bed quite nicely. My cars are all safe and sound, and ready to hit the road at a moment's notice. My precious also avoid the gaze of Mrs. DrVanski when stashed away.

When my brother-in-law got out of the model shop business, I bought one of his display cabinets (the one that used to house the slot cars). He made it himself and it just seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up so I made sure I got it. It's pretty big (just over 5' wide and just under 6½' tall) and has two sliding glass doors. Sadly, it has no shelves at present as he re-used them for the scaled down shop that his mum now runs so I don't know how many cars I'll get in it yet. I've finished painting the slotroom today and my next job is to give this display cabinet a lick of paint and fix it to the wall so I'll post a picture or two of it when that's done and then another when I get the shelves in and the cars on display.

It also has two very small strip lights in fixed to the top of it to light up the cars.

Here's my simple home-made shelves. Deceptively spacious, there's nearly 200 cars crammed in there, and by re-arranging the shelves I can probably squeeze in a few more. These are in my 'office' at home, I'm aiming to redecorate and get some new furniture later in the year, hopefully some new display units too.

For storage of a lot of cars I use a wooden papercabinet, A4 stores 6 cars per tray. Not easy to see, but it handles very well

for cars I want to see I bought two CD thingies on the wall. Advantage is the space between two levels is not too much, so........12 trays contain 24 cars 1/24 or op to 48 in 1/32
but it's a bit of a dustcatcher. who cares?

the IKEA glasscage is nice too, but it lacks 3 additional levels in my opinion. But you dont have to dust 'm off that much
