Hi All,

After a long and arduous develpment and testing prosess Team RCS64 have finally decided on the date for the release of v4.

The date will be Friday 28th November at approximately 5pm UK time.

To use the new version all users will require a new registration key.

We will shortly be sending an email out to all of our users with a Key Request form attached. This form will need to be completed and returned prior to being sent a v4 key.

On the 28th users will be able to download the new version of RCS64 from our website. They can then enter their new registration key and away they go.

Looking forward to the release

OK, this is great news.

Now to clarify... per the RCS64 web site...

Version 87 (the current one) is actually V. 3.0.0.87 which will be replaced by V. 4.x.x.x which was being called Version 2.... until recently....since Version 2.0.0.x was really back in 2012.
Image

Version 3.0.0.1 was the first FREE version (also called Formula 3) and there were other names for other versions (e.g. World Championship Edition) along the way.
Image

But the NEW edition of the Formula 1 will be Version 4.0.0.x .... (see the RCS64 version history if confused).
Image

So my question is what will be the version for the newest Formula 3 (I.e. FREE) edition? And will it be any different from the current one?
Image

OK, I think everyone can go back and figure out what is happening on Coronation Street now....

Cheers!

Hi All,

To use the new version of RCS64 every user will require a new Registration Key.

All RCS64 users should have received, via email, a v4 Registration Key Request Form.

To receive your new v4 key you will need to complete and return the form.

All users who have returned the form should have received their key by email already.

If you have not received an email with the form attached or you have sent in the form but not received your key please email rcs64rms@gmail.com.

Hopefully all users will have their new v4 key prior to the release on the 28th Nov.

So the big day has finally arrived. Love the rain sliding down the download screen. It's been a long road in development, but fullspeed download has delivered it in 4 mins flat.

Big thanks for all the dedication of Martin to see this fantastic program rewrite through to final release and to Marcel for all his work in conceptualisation, not forgetting Andy who is busy creating new support videos.

V4 has been tested to death, so it should be as near to perfect as is humanly possible. I have to say that the pace cars are ace, especially with target lap time working so well. They can even beat my Scalextric Challenger system (link) giving it a headstart, which is no mean feat without sensors around the track.
Also it's great to have wireless throttles support for the superb Scorpius controllers (with dongle). They are my current weapon of choice with their incredibly superfine control.

WELL DONE GUYS!

Cheers,
Chris
PS Good to see a new dedicated support forum with several languages

I found most of it to be fairly straightforward, but some of the stuff is a little harder to grasp than others.

I echo Chris and Ade and all with my congratulations on a job well done.

I spent a couple hours this afternoon with a member of DRAWW. I downloaded it directly to his PC, which was relatively fast, even on his poor wifi connection. The install went very well, and we were up and running within minutes. I've forgotten how many things I customized to my own design, so it took a few minutes to have his set up the same as we normally run with SSDC, but not long. He really appreciated all the things I like about it, such as the track call window with clear indication of who triggered it, and who has damage due. He loved the automatic brake applied when crossing the pit in sensor. Something I hadn't noticed until today, he loved the way the dashboard indicated who finished at the end of the race, so that it's clear who still needed to cross the line. So many things we've been having to "just deal with" lacking on other race management systems, we've found to exist and work well in RCS64. Both of us are looking forward to future development of RCS64.

well just a short test after install and everything now seems to be working good.

I had a problem during install which I believe the installer warns about.. took me three installs/deinstalls to figure out that antivirus was stopping the .exe from being placed in the directory.

I saw a funky issue where all of a sudden within 5 minutes running with the track, all the "cars" started changing names to just a few that I had. it seemed the db got trashed, so I went to "Load Saved Settings" and only chose Cars. the warning said it would reset everything, (even though thats not the option I chose - and I only had cars selected) but it blew the cars back to car1/2/3/4/5/6.

I lost my purchase dates and the 35 cars or so I had in there.. but just re-inputted.

in any event.. everything appears to be working find - but you might want to rename or check for functionality the "Load Settings" for cars.

I am wishing for a way to tie all laptimes in a small db that correlates the day/car/driver/controller/laptimes data.

have been using the prior version with the kids and looking to do a guys race night on the current layout.. but sure to test out v4 with the kids some more tomorrow.

great stuff.. and while I am not messing w tire wear/weather yet, I was able to figure out how the system works overall within 10-15 minutes, even with the new layout and no manual reading.. (its 3am!)

Having your database trashed and describing it as "funky" is one hell of a way to spend an evening ....

Hi All
Thanks for all the positive feedback for the new version.

Personal I must say the last year of developing and testing have taken a lot off tme from me and my team, so a special thanks to our wifes letting us spent so much time.

Andy and Marcel is the reason for RCS64 version4 finaly came to the release. They helped me teting and finding all kind off ways implement all the features. Furthermore they took over all support and key generation, so I could concentrate on programming.
We have had a lot off talking on release it earlier, but looking back on version 87, we was agree we really have to make sure version 4 was just as reliable as 87. That took alot off testing, bug fixing and discussing. When we thought it was close we did invite the Beta testers. I am so glad we did , they did found a lott off bugs or better ways to do things. Actually they found alot so I was so busy in the beta testing periode and made many good improvements. I think the current released version is very stable, with a lot off very advanced features.

So a big thanks to all the testers, you have been a part off this also...

Off couse there will be new findings, but plese have a little patience, and use our new dedicated forum for that, then we will answer or another user will.

Yeah just that im not sure what happened. so I dont want to blame the software without knowing.

Ill have to check for the dedicated forum, sorry thought this was it!

minardi - as far as what I meant by name changing, when you view your Cars, instead of the 35-40 different names that were set up previously, they know had changed 10 or so to Ferrari, a few to another name, and yet a few to another name.. all the unique names of the cars dissappeared.

I couldnt tell you exactly what steps I had taken right before this, but I saw them changing when I came into the Cars screen.

..

On a question: I want to host a race with probably 6 of us (maybe more). I was looking for good recommendations on a good setup for the race. Should I do a series of 5 laps each race, where each racer ends up driving each car? whats recommended from you guys that run clubs etc as a good format, and potentially those that have used RCS64. I think I will keep it simple at first ie not sure if I will have any pitting, nor fuel/weather/tyre interaction

computer been rebooted a few times since the install. try the reinstall and see what happens. some thing screwed up. I was also having problems with throttle not showing up and pacecar on when they should be off so I'm thinking along the same line as you that the install didn't take take. it was burnt to a cd and loaded on the computer. might just have to hook it up to a hard line and do the install like that

Hi
Modern rms packages are a lot more greedy on cpu useage,I gave a mate an old xp machine to run F1 edition on and on our weekly meeting of 3 it ran fine, however when a fourth driver joined in it all whent very erratic.

Definately go for an install with the pc connected to the net

Hi guys,
Version4 Have a lot off calculation each time it talks to the powerbase. It need to for handling all the features like throttle profiles, safe speed, etc.. So I had spent much time to optimize the driver, sadly the FTDI drivers by default have a Latency(delay) on 17 ms. so the FTDI have a delay on 17 each time RCS64 need to tell cars what they have to do. This have always been like that. But this delay can be changed to 1 ms without any problem. Default with an up to date PC you will have a driver loop time on aprox 30ms. for all the calculation and the delay. slower PC will have a higher value, thats why you se the Initializing in the start menu. if you change it to 1 ms, you will be below 20 ms.
RCS64 is in many Windows installations not allowed by the security settings to set it up, but here is a guide how to do it:

http://schmidt-thomsen.dk/RCS64_forum/index.php?topic=18.0

Even if you have a fast PC I recomended that you set it to 1 ms, you will have a much better feeling with the cars.

Be aware if your using other RMS systems they are not builded with a lower value than 17 ms, So I dont know haw they will handle this.

Is that the 'Race start.vi' window? If so, I had the exact same problem. I even took a screenshot to post up on the new forum. Turns out that the window sits and waits for all drivers to push their brake button to signal that they are ready. As soon as we did that, the window disappeared and the race countdown began.

Hope that helps,
Stuart.

If you don't want to wait till all drivers have pressed the brake button, you can also hit the computer Enter/Return key or click on the green Start button, once the initialising process has finished.
