The Stones died today, when Charlie Watts shuffled off this mortal coil

Be interesting to see whether the Glimmer Twins continue without him.

Charlie Watts was so cool , grew up in my late teens early 20,s with the Stones loved the early stuff there were the front men putting it out and Charlie looked like he was at a Sunday afternoon church do chuckle , R.I.P Charlie perhaps you will be rocking along with others no longer with us .

I learned this morning from BBC wireless that Charlie only listened to BBC Radio 3, and was president of the North Wales Sheepdog Society!
........... And his passion wasn't for the blues/rock'n'roll that The Stones played, it was jazz. He formed several jazz bands over the years.

Another slightly interesting fact about Charlie and his style was that his kit was always minimalist - four drums and, usually, five cymbals.

I recall an interview he did years ago whilst the Stones were recording a video. Charlie wasn't best pleased with "all the 'anging around."

He said something along the lines of: "This is just what my life is - five years working and fifteen years 'anging around."

Found this in my odds and end's the Stones like so many of the generation that came along then , first music they learned was to play Chuck Berry , here is the cover of all the early Stones really playing Rock 'n' Roll music and it was Charlie who laid down the beat.
By the way if you have this original in mint condition it,s worth a few bob.

A remember listening to an extract of Keith Richards autobiography on the radio.

He recanted the story when Mick Jagger was foolish enough to provoke Charlie's "drummer's punch"

Keith described it as, "A rare thing that takes some considerable provocation ... but it's LETHAL !"

Mick phoned Charlie Watts' hotel room at about 2am and asked, "Where's my effing drumer?"

Charlie then turned up at the aftershow booze up. Floored Mick with one almighty punch saying, "Don't call me your effing drummer!"

Charlie then attempted to push Mick out of a ground floor window into a canal, he only failed because Keith intervened.

When Charlie bluntly asked Keith, "Why did you stop me?"

the answer was, "Well, he's wearing my jacket"

Ken Bruce just played 'Gimme Shelter' as a tribute to Charlie. (y)

I'd forgotten how much of an impression that track made on me in '69 when I bought the 'Let it bleed' album just because of that crazy sleeve design! AWESOME stuff, and as opening track, a real belter! :)

Somewhere I've still got the album too, but my ancient Rotel has given up the ghost and I can't find anyone who can fix it. :(

Back in 2006 the Stones played in Milano, at the San Siro football stadium. My wife and I decided that it was worth cutting our sea holiday short, so that our kids, 12 and 10 at the time, could see the Rolling Stones live with their parents. We knew that the band members, like anyone, wouldn't be around forever. It was a very wise decision.
