On sunday the 14th of August The Pendle Scalextric Club will hostThe Walkden Fisher Memorial races , a 50th anniversary celebration of the first rail race meeting , this is a pin guide car meeting. There is also a slot car class for cars built before 1959. The rules are very simple all cars must be to total scale appearance and with in the spirit of the event. Only open frame motors are allowed.

Their are no other rules.

This event will include proxy entries, details of which will be posted shortly
The main class is a pin guide race.

This is hoped to be be the largest gathering of historic original slot and rail cars ever, both John Moxon and Jeff Davies are taking original cars .Many of the original competitors from the earliy era of our hobby have been invited to participate .

Spectators are welcome and detailsof times and available accomodation etc will be posted on slot forum prior to the event.. For details of entry contact Jeff Davies j.davies4@ntlworld.com

So the pin car class is for absolutely anybody shell with scratchbuilt chassis?

I think I'll definatly be oop north for this one because it's outside of uni terms so I shouldn't have a problem. I'm also quite interested in meeting Russell and seeing all the awesome World Proxy Can Am cars

. And you don't really need any more excuses to visit the Pendle track

Hi Andy,
The Walkden Fisher Sunday pin car race entry is full. This was because just about all the early members Of ARRA are coming people like Charlie Fitzpatrick and his son and his granddaughter, Chas keeling Graham Green, Dave Jones, and other early racers from Southport. Russell, Don, John P, Beejay and other SlotForum member will be there. More important their will be a lot of the original cars from Dave Jones, Graham Green, Charlie F, John Moxon and Myself as I will be talking some of Walkden's own cars to use.

Slot Classic are building a factory entry pin car for the event, the first manufacture built pin car for many many years.

Jeff,
Easy answer: the TSRF is still in production!

Harder answer: there were practically no commercial slot pin guide cars as we think of them. The pins were mostly used in HO by all manufacturers, and by toy manufacturers like Eldon and Marx (often with a rear pin as well).

Monogram set cars came in both pin and blade versions, ca 1965-66. Can't think of any others offhand, but I'm sure somebody will correct me!

This should have gone in the original post on the WFM meeting. (this is my fault).

Their will be a best concours car were everyone will be given a single vote, the winning car is the car with the most votes.

Their will also be a which car would you most like to take home with you concours as at the rail events again everybody get one vote pictures of the winners will be posted here and given to the magazines.

So I assume that any parts may be used to build the cars as long as they look to be scale overall?
i.e. you can use modern motors, wheels etc?

Phil, no all parts used to build the cars must from the correct period as the spirit is to be back in the 60's therefore so must the car be built from 60's parts. I will inspect the cars myself and anything not conforming to this without a very good reason will be banned.

The aim is very close racing, We will start with qualifying and the racers will then be split into groups of five racers who cars should have almost identical performance.

Everybody will race the same number of races and the winner is who ever completes the most laps in the day's racing.

Best wishes,

Jeff.

Scale modern wheels and tyres are fine but only rubber tyres are allowed.

So the cut-off date for parts used will be 31/12/69 ?

Except, of course, (I hope!) for consumables such as brass, paint, decals etc?

I know I am being a little fussy here, but it's good to get things clear before building the cars!! and as there are no rules as such it can be difficult

Phil,
no all consumable must be period as well. (only kidding)

Their are lots of period motors that are open frame I would rather that these were used so that all the cars had around the same kind of straight line performance as this really leads to close racing.

I would think you would have quite a few for sale if anyone needs one.

The aim of the day is that most of the racers finish on a total of laps not that many behind the winner as it all about fun.

Jeff, I know you don't want rules as such, but surely 'open-frame motors only' would be a good one.

I have had a couple of email asking what sort of bodies make good pin guide cars.

I have couple of original pins cars and have seen several more,

The Gp cars are based on a model where you have the chance to put a fairly solid chassis underneath the most popular seems to have been a Lancia Ferrari

Phil Smith has some pictures of a really nice original LF pin guide car.

Russell's Paxton Indy pin guide car

http://www.slotforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4621. This thread show how to build a pin car

I seen Lotus 19 and the first Lola GT sport car pin models. So these kind of sports cars are ideal.

I have never seen a Vanwall, BRM, Maserati Gp bodied pin car.

I hope this helps

Jeff.
