Trackside grass...

Hi guys,

I'm about to lay down some grass along side my track... should I use STATIC GRASS or FINE TURF? I was afraid that the static grass is so fine it would get into the cars' motor and such alot easier then dislodged pieces of Fine Turf ... Now, that said the Static Grass looks a lot better and more realistic then just laying down the turf...

I intend to use white glue then sprinkle static grass or the fine turf on top, let dry, blow off the excess then maybe even run a dry brush over it to get any additional loose bits off... but even with this my experience is that you will still get pieces of this stuff coming away...

So any preference when it comes to electrical/motorized cars around these two options? Again, I'm worried about what effect these loose bits could possibly have on the cars.

Please excuse my noobness, but I am very new to this whole slot car thing and I'm running Carrera's D132/D124 system...

Thanks.

Once the grass is down and the glue dry go back over it with 50/50 mix of white glue and water and use a spray bottle. It will dry clear.

If you had proper guard rails in the right places you seldom have cars in the grass. Anyhow after a night of racing cars should be maintained ie clean them out and lube them.

Let me bring a model railway material to your attentions, guys. I always use medical lint for grass. You can either die it green or work paint into it when it's stuck down. Glue it down with Impact adhesive, cloth side down, leaving the fluffy side up. Then work watercolours, acrylics or even matt enamels into it with a biggish, stiff brush. When set, it can be teased up into long grass, or shaved with an old electric shaver to get smooth, well-tended grass. The beauty of it is it won't get into your mechanisms like scatter materials.
It's a pity I can't post pictures on here or i could prove how good it looks.

hi I had this problem and I bought at décathlon ( no advert. ) green carpet for gymnastic around 2GBP for 0.60 x 1.80 m I put my tracks on , i cut and it's finethe track and this grass are at the same thin (?) Of course, it's not as nice as grass but it's OK if you put more scenaries on it buildings and so.

ClubSpecial... Medical Lint? Wow, never heard of it. So I Googled it and still couldn't find what you described. Any chance you can post a link to a site that sells this stuff with a picture? Sounds very intriguing...

Fellas, I've been e-mailed by a guy who has explained pictures to me on this forum. So I'm going to try. Not only am I in Photobucket, but the pics I referred to are already on it!!
I really don't know where you'd get it abroad, but I can get it here in the UK still. Overseas it might be called gauze or it might even have been banned for medical use. But there must be something similar. Otherwaise shaven carpet underlay will make a very realistic coarser grass.
Here goes. I used lint to make the sea wall on this little diorama. I used to live there!

Nice picture, I just wish I could see the "grass" a little better.

Hey, this "medical lint" stuff, is it the stuff doctors used under casts? I remember having a cast and before they did the actual cast they rolled this kind of "cottonish" stuff around my leg...

Hello every one I posted a few pictures on here last month, while on holiday over the festive season I thought about making my own grass.

So after much pondering, I went to my local "Fabric WorldLand" and got some awful fur fabric .6mx 1m for ÂŁ4.99

Firstly I used bleech but this just broke down thre glue used to hold every thing together, so I then used a mix of pva glue and poster paints to add colour, then some scenics on top sprayed with diluted pva. This was dome after I trimmed the "fur" as it is about 2m in lenth in 1/32.
