I just bought a Scalextric Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Nr. 22 Limited Edition. Very satisfied!

What motor, if possible, could I use to make it run faster?

Is it difficult changing the motor?

It's running very smoothly overall and has fantastic cornering, but top speed and acceleration could be better.

Easy, Slot-it V-12 2b, 25,000 rpm (the next step up from stock). The spring that attaches the driveshaft to the motor can be reused, but should be glued to the new motor's shaft. Otherwise the motor pops out like the rest of the Scaleys. A bit of flexing of the chassis is helpful as you do this. Looking down at the motor, grasp the chassis at it's sides and gently bend it away from you as you use another finger to push it up through the fingers holding the bell (plastic) end. Pay attention to the positioning of the driveshaft so the pinion doesn't reach into the crown gear too far, or rub at the hold-down bushing on the driveshaft. Gluing down all the chassis bushings won't hurt either. If you REALLY want to go crazy with it, (and possibly make it too hard to drive) go with the SC-07 red-can motor from Scale-auto.

which type of Viper is it, schnuz?

The newest sort has the fly racing motor. This is a different shape & size to the mabuchi/slot-it/sc-07 mentioned, and also quite a good motor to start with. The older Vipers use standard Mabuchi, so swapping the motors as described would work perfectly

EDIT (so as not to confuse even more people than myself): [please note I was not awake when I posted this or the subsequent posts and was going on about Fly Vipers, when the question was about scalextric vipers. They can be disregarded]

I refrained from jumping in before, but I think it may be the word Scalextric that gives it away, Astro!
