What does the "offset" on motor pods mean?

I am thinking of using some Slot It Motor pods like the sich110 for some scratchbuild projects.

In the description is says it has a .5mm offset... what does that mean?

Thanks

As Celica said, as Celica said, as . .

The idea is that raising the axle by say 0.5mm is the same effect as using a wheel which is the same amount smaller in RADIUS - it has the effect of lowering the rear of the chassis by that same 0.5mm

It helps handling to have a lower car. The fronts you can adjust separately using the grub screw height setting system.

In the case of the CH110 which is an inline pod using a "crown gear"on the axle, you can happily use the same crown as for a non-offset pod. But if you decide to use say a 1.0 mm offset inline pod like the CH49b

You would need to switch to Slot.it's line of "offset" crown gears which have the teeth slightly isometric to enable good mesh with the pinion.

Just be aware that using the offset pods does in fact move the wheels/tyres further up inside the body and wheel arch. So be sure to check clearance both static, and when bod/chass/pod rock are taking into account while driving.

My method is to put the bearing on the shaft of a screwdriver, which aligns the bearing, then press in with the screwdriver's handle.
