Great video as always Andy.

Zarko, personally I found that first lane changer one of the easiest to hit! I was managing to fairly consistently change there and then use the inside to outside changer on the hairpin to widen the corner. The only other one I liked to use a lot was on the way into the large R4 corner at the end of the lap.

I fell foul of the mid main straight changer and went through the penalty box once missing a lap. I can't claim that my team would have won without it though as Andy did exactly the same thing!

If we re-use the layout (and I hope we do), I will be pushing for us to widen the third corner and remove the lane changer from it. It was the trickiest corner but having a standing marshal caused sightline issues to the hairpin. Our solution was to have a Junior sat in a chair on that corner but they were quickly overwhelmed at times with multiple crashers.

Ok one last try!!!!

I hope this works, fingers crossed

If it does not work then there are a 2 straight lane change, 1 pit lane straights and curves from normal sets. Am using a "old type" 6 car pb (avliable on ebay sometimes at a very reasonable price!) an old dell lap top connected to the pb via vga(?) port running slot gp for refuelling etc.
We know that Mike D put a lot of effort in to Wednesday nights track but as mentioned this is only ment to show that a track that took 10 mins to set up can be just as fun!!!!

Mike,

Sign up for Photobucket, its free. Upload your photos to your bucket. When you view each one you will see useful links on the right. The bottom is an Image URL. Click it and it auto copies. Paste that into your forum post and it will appear. Looking forward to seeing your home layout.

Woodcote, or any WHO racer at the event... how did the driver changeover work? Was the race paused every 5 minutes, and all drivers changed at once while the cars sat idle? Did a horn sound every 5 minutes and members would shuffle around and trade off while the car was in the pit lane? I'm particularly interested in this because I'd like to run something similar, but my home track has very little room to move around it.

The driver changes were 'live' - we do something similar for our Micro Scalextric team races. One change over is on the video at 22 seconds...

At 4mins 30secs the "driver change window" was announced and the blue flashing light turned on. Teams then had 60 seconds to change over, meaning a driver could be taken off immediately or left on until the end of the 'window' - when the blue light was switched off.

Every driver change should have happened in the pits - where a re-fuel was permitted at the same time. And some teams then cleaned tyres with tape.

We thought the 60 second 'window' minimised the potential for chaos - and also allowed some tactics to come into play.

Like almost everything last night, I think the change overs worked well

Over the weekend, I will go back into SSDC and dig out some fastest laps and any other data I can find

WOW....That was fun...

A cracking night of Dads and lads slotcar action....It's what WHO's all about..

Pleased to report that it all went pretty smoothly for the first outing of the Worthing HO/DIGITAL format....

There was a real buzz going on and a load of banter after each segment and it did get really tense towards the end...

The team format worked well and after the steep learning curve that the first segment was, every team started clocking up the laps..

There was a lot of new concepts to grasp..

Magless cars,lane changing,no contact,pit stops,penalty sinbin lane...

Finding the shortest way round the track, avoiding other cars and trouble...

Using the curved lane changers to make the tighter bends much easier to negotiate, using the curved lane changers to get into the inside lane and the shorter way round the track..

Being sensible with the throttle and squeezing a couple more laps out of a full tank...

So I am sure the next time we run DIGITAL everyone will be a little bit wiser...

Thanks to Scalextric for producing the almost bullet proof Ford Taurus Nascar, they all survived. The one casualty suffering a broken motor wire after a hefty rear end shunt.

SSDC ran really well, much thanks Mr Wallace..

Thanks to all the guys who helped/provided bits and set that lot up and were able to hang around for the teardown..

Briliant race report and video as usual Andy...

Can't wait for the next one...

See you for Nascar in two weeks

Last nights quick garage track

Cars are Lotus Evora, Mini and an mp4-12c. The mp4 started off the best car then became a beast when a new turbo(ok braids) were fitted!
Unfortunatley Daniels car choice is rather letting him down as both the Buggati Veryon and corvette are too tail happy and will not go round corners!

Also forgot to mention that 2 "gaming chairs" provide the speakers to hook my ipod up to for the banging tunes to be blasted out, not sure why but Highway to hell went down well with kids!!!!

Nice garage. I need to negotiate use of the living room to set digital stuff up chez Woodcote

I can't wait to do some more digital racing at the Barn. Should have some more dates soon...

I've updated the WHO/digital section of our website today. It will be added to in due course. Any suggestions of what would be useful to include, let me know. We can build a little section like with the Micro Scalextric stuff.

The x is because SSDC came up with a minus 40 second best lap... Maybe something to do with the demise of the Coca Cola car and reprogramming of the replacement?

Going through the raw data, it was clear that all teams had to get used to the refueling. There were quite a few quick-ish trips through the pit lane - suggesting no stop took place - and other times there were two (or three in a couple of cases) long stops in consecutive laps, suggesting that refueling didn't happen, for one reason or another. Some of these non-fueling stops could have been driver changes when refueling wasn't attempted.

As the race went on, most teams seemed to settle down to regular, successful fuel stops. Some stops were preceded by a succession of slow laps - suggesting the car was out of fuel. Even with teams that were being gentle on the throttle, anything less than 10 stops in a segment would mean running out of fuel and spending quite a few laps going very slowly...

Some teams decided to clean tyres whilst in the pits - increasing their time in the pit / pit stop ratio. I suppose that would be an interesting stat to produce too. Maybe next time

I enjoyed following the Daytona 24 hour race at the weekend and loads of interesting stats were produced for that - I might borrow the format and work out an easy way of getting the data out of SSDC.

Mike and me are looking at some more WHO/digital dates in March, April, October and December. There will be a couple more Wednesday nights and, hopefully, a Saturday. We'll need to check the availability of the Barn and will post them as soon as they are confirmed.

It would be much kinder to your cars if you use a least a blanket under the track ...... those poor old bodies will take a hammering on concrete ....

This thread does make me smile in that you guys have decided to try out digital, a big departure from your comfort zone of HO, and are lurving it ...

It is great to see everyone giving it a really good go and obviously enjoying it ......

Our next WHO/digital race with be at the Barn on Wednesday 19 March. It'll be the same format as last time with a different track layout and new official WHO/digital club cars.

There's also some cool pics of our first digital event in the latest issue (issue 18) of Slot Car Mag.
